PC At Work

I heard a good one today. A friend of mine said that at his place of employ a woman was "turned in" to the HR department for a Take This Job and Shove It ringtone. Can you believe that? I am sorta sick of everyone being offended and outraged about something or other.  Aren't you? It is just not as funny as it used to be. Are we all becoming Dumbass Sheila Jackson Lee?

I'm going to use this space to encourage you on your decision to stop smoking. Go for it. Make the decision that you really want to do it, and do it. I promise you, once the last urge passes, and it will, you will be far happier.

A lot of people will tell you that when you feel the urge for a cigarette to chew some gum or eat a piece of candy. As someone who quit drinking 30 years ago, and quit smoking 28 years ago, let me offer you this.

When you feel the urge to smoke, DON'T DO ANYTHING. Just don't smoke. If you don't submit to the urge, it will pass, and after you have not submitted to enough urges, eventually the urge will not return.

If you do ANYTHING in response to that urge, you have submitted to the urge, and it will keep returning. It will never stop returning, because it is winning.

When the urge to smoke hits, just BEAT THAT ONE SINGLE URGE, that one time. Do that enough times and the urge to smoke will give up and will not return. I absolutely promise you that.
