Food for Thought

I just saw a "news ticker" flash across the bottom of the screen on the Weather Channel informing us all that the "Obama administration has asked the food and restaurant industry to limit marketing to children." I bet this is kind of like when a mob boss tells a subordinate that "maybe they ought to think about' doing (or refraining from) doing something. We have all seen that at the movies and we all know what that means.

It is just a bit more of the "fundamental change" you see.

Ok. I'll take you up on this.

How much are you willing to bet, that the people's government _asking_ the food and restaurant industry to limit marketing to children will threaten how much lard you get to consume?

Is this another of your 'big bad government' taking away your right to be absolutely stupid sh!t you whined about 'light bulbs' not too long ago?

Don't you live in Texas? The same Texas where your elected governor who wanted to secede form USA is now asking where is federal help?

Well I guess I should start by saying that yes I live in Texas but think our current gov is an idiot. As far as the food industry goes - I have no problem with them marketing their "food" to a young audience. It is the adult's responsibility to control the child's eating habits. If an adult wants to eat unhealthy tripe well then it is no business of the govt.

Also the whole "secede" from the union thing was "tongue in cheek."

I will say though that if the state of Texas could go it alone (and of course it legally can't and won't), it would be able to survive as a nation state.

Emma you are a fat jealous ugly sexually deprived man hating woman. The economy in Texas is better than your idiotic state and our governor has better hair than you. When was the last time you actually had sex?

Oh BS!

Like individuals stand a chance against big money industries marketing directly at children. One can be sure you feel the same for 'big tobacco' generational long marketing cigarettes to children.

Your making sexual advances toward me are probably illegal.

"Emma you are a fat jealous ugly sexually deprived man hating woman."
You can tell this where you hide in your closet? Really?

"The economy in Texas is better than your idiotic state and our governor has better hair than you."
I live in the state of denial and confusion, so this is as close to reality and truth as you will ever be.

Ema I apologize for the crassness of anon but as one who believes in the 1st Am. I must let the comment stand.

The 1st Amendment applies only to the government. It does not apply to your blog. You are free to set any policy for speech on you blog that you wish, as I do. People who make ad hominem attacks in comments on my blog, either against me or against others, have their comments deleted.

I have to admit, given Ema's proclivity for making insults against others, I would be inclined to allow insults against her stand.

As for Ema,
"Like individuals stand a chance against big money industries marketing directly at children. One can be sure you feel the same for 'big tobacco' generational long marketing cigarettes to children."

Nonsense, I believe in personal responsibility. While I have no problem with the government providing guidelines, parents are responsible for the health of their children, and companies have the right to advertise as they wish.

I have severe emphysema, caused by years of smoking, and that smoking was entirely my responsibility. The tobacco companies did not put the cigarettes in my mouth and light them.

I tell the truth about your lame lines of prose. You just think they are insults.

"While I have no problem with the government providing guidelines (WHICH IS WHAT THE ADMINISTRATION DID AND THIS CABBIE SOILED HIMSELF ABOUT), parents are responsible for the health of their children, and companies have the right to advertise as they wish."

Ya right. Gun manufactures, drug dealers, booze companies and tobacco companies should be allowed to market their wares of death to children on Saturday morning. Free speech.

It's the parents' responsibility, yuk yuk yuk. Real smart on you.

No thank you. I am sure the tobacco companies and their advertisements had no influence on your taking up the butt.

Ema,
I did not soil myself. I'll double check though.
You, my dear, are one who believes the govt needs to be involved in everything. You do not believe that people should be allowed to make their own choices and mistakes. Anyone who tries to make a profit in business is apparently evil it seems. I do not believe you are a "Liberal." I think you are very likely a Marxist and a true believer in some type of "ism" or other.

You are the lunatic fringe.

Actually, no. I started while I was at sea with the US Navy and there was, at the time, no advertising on submarines.

"You, my dear, are one who believes the govt needs to be involved in everything." Government is involved in everything that includes two or more people. Ever been to a football game that did not have rules and umpires?

"You do not believe that people should be allowed to make their own choices and mistakes." When it comes to children and fools being manipulated by advanced commercial advertising, then adults have to step in. Or have you bought the gibberish that corporations can be trusted to govern themselves,; you know like the banks?

Your simple. simplistic, silly, and shallow sniveling about mean ol' government is the perfect parallel of your governor's asking for federal aid after talking secession.

"Anyone who tries to make a profit in business is apparently evil it seems. I do not believe you are a "Liberal." I think you are very likely a Marxist and a true believer in some type of "ism" or other.

You are the lunatic fringe." Is this personal attack on Ema Nymton, your way of conceding you have no ideas and are wrong on the issues?

JayHawk

"Actually, no. I started while I was at sea with the US Navy and there was, at the time, no advertising on submarines."

Yea right. Like any good drug dealer who gives free samples to get chumps hooked on their deadly goods, the tobacco companies have always pushed their death to the military. Issued C-rations once had 'four packs' of cigarettes in each meal. But hey, I decided to smoke.

Sorry again, dear. As usual you blow off steam in ignorance. The Navy doesn't use C-rations, and never has. We used "sea rations" which are an entirely different thing; not individual packages, but bulk goods. No cigarettes in them, either.
