The Republican get together in Tampa last night was top story on most of the "news" networks. I had a little trouble understanding this as Romney's nomination was a foregone conclusion and there was a potential natural disaster bearing down on parts of the Gulf Coast. Most rational people would think a hurricane moving into the NOLA area is just a bit more important. Don't you think?
That being said, I did tune in a few times to view the Republicans in action. Pretty boring most of it, but I certainly did get a kick out of the reaction to some in the crowd when Ron Paul had delegates show up in his favor. It was interesting to see MN and I think NV. cast more ballots for Paul than Romney. I believe there were a few other states delegations did the same. The reaction? A bit of unrest it seemed to me. Why are those in the Republican mainstream so afraid of this man. Is it his ideas? He has a few good ones sure but a good many are quite frankly borderline insane. Dr. Paul is the rep in my district and he is well loved, but to me he is just about as loony as Dumbass Sheila Jackson Lee. Even she has a good idea once in a while also.
Again, why would the middle of the road Democrats err Republicans be fearful of this man? A good question. Would it be that a substantial minority of Republicans see the mainstream folk for what they are? Bill Clinton without the sexual peccadilloes (that we know of). Very little difference. Romney is a typical middle of the road type and is probably not too much further to the right than William Jefferson. A John McCain without the crazy perhaps.
Fact is, those who portray themselves a moderates usually (not always) win national elections. Romney may pander a bit to the Tea Party types and the "evangelicals" as required, just as Obama pandered a bit to the ultra left fruitloops of his party. Obama is probably as radical a president as we have had in living memory and even he has seen the need to move somewhat toward the center. If he should win again we likely will see him move toward his true nature.
Romney is a centrist. A fact that irritates a lot of conservative voters but he has opportunity to win. Do you for a money think that a Ron Paul would be elected to the highest office in the land? Paul is as honest as Sanders of VT. and that honesty (no matter how loony) and integrity scares the mainstream folk. They can't handle it.
Oh what does that have to do with aliens? I have worked, as a bartender, for a least two rather large Republican events. Some of those folks actually seem like they are from another planet. Wooden, plastic, and humorless a lot of them. Like something that might abduct you and take you to the mother ship. I don't trust them any more than I trust the fruitloops of the other party.
It is a conumdrum of sorts.

Tuesday in July and Possibly A Tart or Two
I have been sick the last couple of days with some type of funk or other. Actually had to call out from work. I don't particularly like the new job (to say the least) but I don't like to miss either. I suppose I will take some time to make a few inane comments and observations on what passes as "late breaking news."
It is being reported that the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhoods' threats to the Pyramids are a hoax and just never happened. Perhaps so. It is easy to see how people would fall for it though (if it is indeed only a hoax). It seems that Islamists do tend to be jealous of anything that is not of the Prophet and certainly have a very recent (and ongoing) history of destruction. I would not be surprised to find that on any given day, the Pyramids, Sphinx, etc. being nothing more than a pile of rubble. Would you?
I guess they are going to be ashootin Great Whites down Australia way. A few surfers have been attacked of late and the latest was bitten in half. I have an idea. A real solution to the problem would be to just keep your Aussie ass out of the water or at least recognize that there is a slight risk of losing a body part in some sort of shark attack. People in the Galveston area wade fish, "surf" and swim in the ocean all the time and any type of shark attack is extremely rare. It can happen though. Recognize and deal with it.
One H. Clinton's motorcade was pelted with shoes, fruits and vegetables accompanied by shouts of "Monica" from the street urchins of Cairo (Alexandria? whatever). This probably would not have happened without at least tacit approval from what amounts to the Egyptian govt. It is going to be very interesting to see just where this new "change in direction" in the Arab world will lead.
The presidential campaign is getting into full swing. So much for any attempt at civility. We have supposedly learned that Romney is a tax evader, outsourcer, occultist, sorcerer, and pimp. Some dummy by the name of Stephanie Cutter said that Romney may be a felon. I don't know about all that but I do now that this Cutter ain't a bad looking old broad. She could have a niche career in Chatsworth if things bomb for her in the political arena. Oh. Have I gone too far here.......
As far as the charge of outsourcing goes, I would have no doubt that Romney may have indirectly been involved in American firms outsourcing jobs overseas. It is funny to see his political opponents tear into him on the issue though. Outsourcing has been a problem for decades and is destroying the nation. Both political parties along with short sighted corporate policies are to blame.
The Syrian govt may be on its last legs. There are reports that there is now fighting in the streets of Damascus. Hard to say if this is accurate or not. It might not be long before Assad and CO. are seen hanging from lampposts. Shoes will be thrown. Or maybe if he is lucky he will be able to leave the country and spend his days in Tehran lounging by the pool, chillin with his peeps (as they say). There is probably not much good that will come out of the whole mess except perhaps (just perhaps) an Islamist (or secular) govt will not see fit to allow Russia to have naval access. That may be the only bright spot. Whoever gets control of the Syrian reigns of power will not likely be inclined to feel to kindly to the Russians after their rather adamant support of the Assad regime. Still in the long run, it would likely be better for Assad or perhaps some military junta to hold the keys of power in this sad land. Assad, and the military, know damn good and well that unleashing war on their next door neighbor is a losing proposition. An Islamist styled regime might think otherwise.
For an in depth assessment of the Syrian problem from someone who really has an idea what he is talking about I suggest taking a look at Barry Rubin's place rubinreports.blogspot.com
In an earlier post today I delved into the unfortunate incident of a U.S. Naval vessel firing on a boat that got too close. The course of action, while tragic in this particular case, was necessary for the safety of our vessel and crew. No apologies required.
About enough I guess. How about some surfers? I don't know about a Great White but I would bet there are some land sharks willing to take a bite.

Trash Talking On a Thursday
If I was a betting man, and only if, I would wager that this Joshua Ledet will take the title as this year's American Idol. I don't watch a whole lot of these variety shows, they tend to irritate me at times, but this guy can sing like very few I have ever seen. If you saw him belt out It's A Man's World last night you know what I mean.
Interestingly enough he hails from Westlake, La. Westlake is a community of chemical plants and casinos just across the river from Lake Charles. A lot of poverty there. Like most chemical towns, the unbelievable weath associated with the manufacture just does not seem to "trickle down" (as they say) to the local community. If you have ever been to Freeport, or Galena Park, Tx, or Westlake, La. you will know what I am talking about. Be that as it may, I don't think that Ledet has so much to worry about as far as poverty is concerned. Win or lose, he will be able to make his way (and then some) in the music business. Good for him!
I wish this Louisianan all the luck in the world. I am, after all, a Southeastern Conference man.
I suppose that Obama has come out now in favor of "gay marriage." OK. I have heard it called in the media as "gay for pay." or some such. Apparently some gay advocate groups have threatened withholding funds from his campaign if he doesn't play ball. So I hear anyway. He is foolish, in my humble opinion, for caving on this issue. Of course there is a fundraiser of some sort going on tonight at Clooney's humble abode. I hear the cost to hang with the POTUS is something like 40,000 a plate. That is nuts. I wouldn't pay 40,000 to dine with Ron Jeremy.
Like I said in a recent post, the majority of America has little sympathy for the "gay agenda" and Obama catering to what is considered the extreme left "base" will likely hurt him come November.
Romney is being trashed for supposedly taking part in a cruel prank when he was in high school. So? Kids do stupid shit. All the time. At least we have not heard about him palling around with known terrorists such as Ayers. That man (Ayers) should be in federal prison to this day. The only difference between an Ayers and a McVeigh was that McVeigh was a successful terrorist and Ayers' little group was thankfully a bunch of fuck ups. Still people did lose their lives due to the action of the Weather Underground. Ayers should have been imprisoned for the remainder of his life. Any candidate for office should know better than to have any association with such trash unless it was as a member of the prosecution team.
Joe Arpaio is under fire from the federal government. He has thumbed his nose at the DC crowd it seems. Just watch though. They will find a way to get to him. How on earth could a Justice Dept headed by this Holder attack an American lawman for nothing more than doing the job he was hired (elected) to do? A bit of politically motivated selective "enforcement" on the part of the fedgov it seems to me.
My friend has trouble at airports. It is kind of funny really. I have a feeling that the reason he gets bothered by these TSU "agents" is that he does not have the ability that most of us have to hide his contempt. Putting on the mask of neutrality is beyond his capability. I would imagine that is why he has problem with these folk.
Years ago he and I had a discussion about this TSA program. I was of the opinion that airport security would be handled by a professional force and that force should be a federal agency. Was I wrong? I don't think I was. I still believe so, but what I did not count on was that the same minimum wage types would be manning the posts. I figured they would be weeded out in favor of those, shall we say, a bit more professional. Apparently not. Now we see the spectre of the TSA getting out of control. Just recently Dumbass Sheila Jackson Lee touted a pilot program in Houston where TSA agents would be placed on city buses. We all know that crime can a problem on public transportation sure, but placing undercover cops on duty on the various modes of conveyance is a local affair.
That is about enough.
