One does have to take into account professional jealousy that can sneak into the Coaches Poll however, but still, I find it most accurate. My poll won't mirror the Coaches assessment, but again, it is a good to use as a reference.

Here goes.

1. Georgia: I still consider this a toss up really between the Dogs and Bama. Georgia won the official "Championship" game, but just a couple of weeks earlier they got their clocked cleaned by the Tide.

2. Alabama: They could just as easily been in the number one spot, but they did lose the big game at the end.

3. Cincinatti: This team deserved to be there, and I would put them just above Michigan in the polls.

4. Michigan: After years of being a "wannabe" squad (and quite dismal some years) the Wolverines finally put together a very good team. Coaching has a lot to do with it.

5. Baylor: Good season but the conference is, for the most part, pretty weak. Still, I would put them over some other squads for the 5th spot. Barely.

6, Oklahoma State: The only other real good team in the Big Twelve is somewhat better than the 2nd gest team in the Big 10.

7. Ohio State: Good season but the Buckeye fans are likely sorely disappointed here. Not beating Michigan is a hard pill to swallow.

8. Ole Miss: The Rebs were the real deal this year, and if the SEC is not a tough as perhaps in some years, well they seem tough enough to me. After the SEC is again the top dog in college football. No surprise there.

9. Michigan State: Darn good season. I had to think hard to choose the Rebs in the spot above them. Could be wrong.

10. Oklahoma: OK. I guess.

11. Kentucky: The Wildcats had a very good year in a very tough conference. Well coached.

12: Notre Dame: Lost a very good coach. This season they had a pretty good legitimate top 20 team. Seems like they are ranked high early in the season yearly and always disappoint. This was a better year than usual.

13. Clemson: These particular Tigers were not quite as good as they have been in the recent past. Still a very dangerous team that could surprise anyone on any given day.

14. Houston: An under rated team due to playing in a conference that does not get proper due.

15. Wake Forest: Better than average season for the Deacons. To say the least.

16. Utah Utes: Could surprise anyone on any given day. Conversely, they could get surprised by just about anyone.

17. Pittsburgh: A very good year. Hats off. Often the Panthers are horrible.

18. Louisiana: The Cajuns are a good football team and they would be dangerous for anyone. Now, of course, the HC has moved to "greener pastures." It is funny how often that doesn't work out for coaches. Some should just stay where they are having success.

19. Arkansas: The Razorbacks finally fielded a team that could compete in the SEC. When was the last time that happened? Never. This is the first year in quite a while that they were even the best team in Arkansas. For the past few years, the other Arkansas team (ASU) has been the best team in the state.

20. Iowa: OK. I may have them slightly under rated here.

21. NC State: The Wolfpack finally fielded a different team than one that is usually seen.

22. Utah State: The best team that calls themselves the Aggies in the country.

23: BYU: I sort of dislike to rank a team that is not in a conference unless they deserve it. This includes Notre Dame. This year both deserve to be ranked.

24.Oregon: A disappointing season for the Ducks. Ranking them in the top 25 is a stretch.

25. TAMU: OK, I guess. There are (many) other schools that are as deserving of this spot, perhaps more so than these particular Aggies. None of them beat Alabama though. So, for that reason alone they are included in the Top 25.

Now for the required Rule 5. Enjoy. Ain't she a good looking one. No? What is wrong with you?

Bartender Cabbiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05623813045706584212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6661288566810922442.post-71988755937166476232022-01-15T20:26:00.002-06:002022-01-15T20:26:28.965-06:002021 College Football Bowl Roundup with Rule 5
I was actually thinking that Michigan would be facing Alabama for the "National Championship" game in major college football. Turned out Georgia made the grade after all and took revenge on the Tide. As much as I like "he who shall remain nameless" (Ok Saban), it is always good to see him lose except perhaps by Notre Dame, TAMU Aggies, USC, or perhaps Oklahoma. History has shown that it is very hard to defeat Nick. Doesn't usually happen more than once a season. Anyway.....

As far as my bowl predictions went, I did fairly well on the won/loss but was pretty dismal with the points spread. It is not as easy as it seems, especially when one is just getting back into the college football prediction game. Been out a few years.

One thing we did learn is that a team from a non "Power Five" conference is very capable of being competitive with the teams from the top conferences. Hats off to Cincinatti for a great season and a shot at the "National Title." The deserved it. Fell differently? Well, with all respect, you might be an idiot. It will be nice when we see more teams entered to play for a real clean, fair, championship series. After all, it is done in the lower divisions of college football without a real hitch. Speaking of which, congrats to ND State.

Shortly I will put out the final BartenderCabbie top 25 for the 2021 college football season.

Now, how about some Rule 5 for your viewing pleasure.

Pretty nice for a Sooner fan. Don't you think?

Bartender Cabbiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05623813045706584212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6661288566810922442.post-56905270690227804382021-12-09T20:53:00.006-06:002021-12-30T16:54:47.595-06:002020/2021 College Bowl Lines Predictions and Lines
College football is back this year with, as they say, a vengeance. Last season was pretty much a bust with the Wuhan Virus disrupting things and even before that with all the silly protests that were breaking out everywhere about this, that, and nothing. Many of us lost interest in sports altogether, including me. I personally still won't watch pro sports. Just not interested and likely won't be in the future. College? Different story. That being said, here are my predictions, analysis, and betting lines.

Bahamas Bowl - Toledo vs MTSU

Toledo had a fairly good season in a what turned out to be a very unpredictable and wide-open MAC conference. They have a 3-0 streak going, came close to beating the "powerful" Notre Dame squad, and played NIU, the MAC champion, a very close game. MTSU, competitive in the woeful CUSA, had some decent wins. Toledo should take this one. The game might be worth tuning in to watch

Toledo -9

Cure Bowl - NIU vs Coastal Carolina

This will be a good one NIU, for the most part, handled their MAC schedule very well, the hiccup with WMU notwithstanding. They lost to Kent State early, but revenge was theirs when it mattered in the rematch. Pretty good ball club all around. For a while there Coastal Carolina looked like it would win the Sun Belt and, for a time, they were ranked nationally. A couple of somewhat surprising losses took them out of the running. These two teams are a good match up and it should be fun to watch.

NIU -2

Boca Raton Bowl - WKU vs Appalachian State

WKU lost in the CUSA championship to a probably under rated UTSA squad at the Alamodome. Appalachian State let the Cajuns beat them 2 times this season, Once it wasn't even close. That said, App State is the better team here and should win. Might get ugly

App State -11

New Mexico Bowl - UTEP vs Fresno State

. Fresno State had a good season, came close against Oregon, lost on the road to a fair Hawaii team, and could not get over the hump with Boise State. A 3-loss season which might, and perhaps should have ended with the Bulldogs running the table. UTEP had a pretty good season and was very competitive in CUSA. Fresno State is the better team here and should win fairly handily. The Bulldogs are a top 25 team in my opinion.

Fresno State -10

Independence Bowl- BYU vs UAB

UAB did not have any real notable wins during the season but did have at least one loss of note. They were competitive in CUSA and is a team that could and should have a better record. BYU played anywhere and everywhere it seems. They handled their business for the most part against ranked opponents, the loss to Baylor notwithstanding and allowed themselves to fall against a probably under rated Boise State squad. On paper, they should handle this one in fairly easy fashion. UAB should not be able to keep up but I would wager (and will) that UAB will be up for this game and BYU will be wondering why they aren't playing in a more prestigious bowl or a highly ranked opponent. It might be closer than some think.

BYU -8

Lending Tree Bowl - Liberty vs EMU

There are too many bowls and this one certainly falls into the "why is this a bowl" category. That said this might be a decent game. Liberty is on a 3-game skid and their only win of note is against UAB. There are also some notable losses, particularly against ULM. EMU was competitive in the MAC with 4 losses. Liberty is probably, may be, could be, etc. the better team here and, if I was a betting man, would go with them for no real particular reason.

Liberty -4

Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl (the what?) Oregon State vs Utah State

OK, Jimmy must be making some real bank to have his name associated with this one. Kind of a stupid name for a game, but what the heck. The game looks like a pretty good match up. Oregon State comes in at 7-5 while Utah State comes in with a 10-3 record. It is arguable whether the PAC 12 is any tougher than the Mountain West. There are some who would say the Mountain West is really the tougher conference. I would spend my money picking Utah State here.

Utah State -7

New Orleans Bowl - Louisiana vs Marshall

The Cajuns have had a darn good season and have been good enough the last few years that their coach is off to "greener" pastures (as they say) Louisiana is hands down the best team in the state this season and, right now, it would be interesting to see them play at top 15 opponent. That said, the opponent is Marshall. The Herd was competitive in CUSA and I would not count them out of this one either. The Cajuns are the much better team, but the game has to be played. We will see.

Louisiana -10

Myrtle Beach Bowl - ODU vs Tulsa

Tulsa made a bit of noise in the AAC and scared more than a few teams that they finally lost too. They are on a three-game run including a victory over SMU. ODU, after a horrible start, is on a 5 game streak. That is pretty impressive in college football these days for anyone. Still, both teams are 6-6. Should a 6-6 team really even qualify for a post season game? No matter. The game will be played. Go with Tulsa here.

Tulsa -4

Idaho Potato Bowl -Kent State vs Wyoming

I think this bowl should be renamed the "Blue Field Bowl" but no one asks. This may be a good game. Kent State, the MAC runner up, had a pretty good season and did win one against the conference champion, The rematch at Ford Field did not go their way though and so they end up here. Actually, this may be a more prestigious bowl than the one NIU is playing in. The game has been around for a while. Wyoming is no stranger to playing on the blue field and usually things don't work out so well for them here. That said, the resident team is not who they will be facing. Good thing. They lost that one. The Cowboys, 6-6 have had an up and down season but it is notable that they took care of the MAC champion earlier in the year (as did Kent St one of two times). This one is a pick, but I will go out on a limb and say Wyoming will be the winner.

Wyoming -2

Frisco Bowl - UTSA vs SDSU

Now here is one to watch. UTSA almost ran the table and were ranked at one time. The regular season ending loss to UNT derailed their national attention for the most part. Are the Roadrunners overrated or under rated? That will be a question that might be answered here. SDSU is a good football team and are currently ranked. Who will win this one? I would say that UTSA, but that loss to UNT, and the way they let WKU storm back and almost catch them in the CUSA Championship game make me wonder a bit. Conversely, SDSU loss to finish out against a good Utah State squad makes one wonder if the Aztecs are up for the challenge. But, then again, their only other loss was to a good Fresno State team. The WAC is a tougher conference than CUSA and SDSU has faced tougher opponents. Go with SDSU here. That said, whoever wins deserves to be ranked. Perhaps both teams do anyway regardless of the outcome.

SDSU -7

Armed Forces Bowl - Army vs Mizzou

Might be a good game. Army did pretty good this season and is currently at 8-3. The game vs Navy has yet to be played and West Point is favored. 8-3 (9-3,8-4 however it plays out) is considered a very good season for Army football. Mizzou comes in at 6-6, beat the teams they were expected to beat, except for perhaps Boston College, and lost the ones most figured they would. The do play an SEC schedule which means they have seen tougher foes than West Point. Army still has their big game yet to play vs Navy. That one is much more important to them probably than a bowl game. Pick the Tigers.

Mizzou -4

Frisco Football Classic - Miami (OH) vs UNT

Two bowl games in Frisco? This one is not to be confused with the Frisco Bowl but it is played in the same town, field, etc. etc. Not real sure this one should even be played but since it will be...Miami (OH) competitive in the MAC vs UNT, which became competitive in CUSA. Both come in at 6-6. Someone has to win.

UNT -7

Gasparilla Bowl - UCF vs Florida

Florida 6-6 did not have the type of season that they expect. Some of the UCF folks probably think the same thing. This may or may not be a good game. UCF is probably right now the better of the two squads, but their schedule does not measure up to what Florida has to face in the SEC. UCF by a couple.

UCF -3

Hawai'i Bowl - Hawaii vs Memphis

How many times have the Warriors been in the Hawai'i Bowl? Seems like quite often. Memphis, their opponent comes in at 6-6. The Tigers have had signature wins over Mississippi State and SMU. They also struggled a good bit but some of their losses were by very narrow margins. It could be argued that they should be coming in at 9-3 instead of 6-6 but their inability to close out is cause for concern. The Warriors actually come in with a losing record at 6-7 (the extra game due to the travel thing), and do not really have any signature wins. They actually played NM State twice. Makes one wonder why another school should have been interested in this game and accepted a bid. The Wuhan Virus restrictions are pretty heavy in Hawaii so travel for fans from the mainland may have been taken into consideration. Beautiful place but who needs a hassle. Right? Some folks would forgo the game just because of that perhaps. That said, the game must be played. This is another home game for the Warriors so some would place their money with them. I would opt to do the opposite.

Memphis -7

Addendum - This game was cancelled due to the Wuhan Virus. This is getting really stupid.

Camellia Bowl - Ball State vs Georgia State

This is another one of those games that there really seems to be no need for. Of course, these bowl games, no matter how minor (or seemingly ridiculous) do bring money into the community and that has to be taken into consideration. The teams? Well, Georgia State has had a pretty good season this year for just having come up from IAA err FCS fairly recently. They did handle their cross-state rival and were pretty competitive in the Sun Belt. They are also on a 3-game streak which helps their cause. There will be confidence there. Ball State weighs in at 6-6. They had a signature win over Army and came very close to upending NIU. Other than that, they were middle of the pack MAC. I would go with Georgia State here

GSU - 9

Quick Lane Bowl - WMU vs Nevada

Does everyone in the MAC go to some kind of bowl or other? It sure seems so. WMU comes in at 7-5 and 4-4 in conference. They have signature wins over conference champion NIU and non-conference Pittsburgh. They are possibly a better team than their record indicates. Nevada 8-4 enters this game with wins over Boise State and SDSU on their resume. The too, may be a better team than the record indicates. This is near a pick I think but I might go with Nevada here.

Nevada -3

Military Bowl - Boston College vs ECU

ECU comes in at 7-5 and was competitive in their league. Boston College, at 6-6 did not compete well in the ACC at all. ECU is the better team and the AAC is the better conference this season. I would put my money on the Pirates.

ECU -9

Well another one cancelled due to the Wuhan Virus "threat."

Birmingham Bowl - Auburn vs Houston

This will essentially be a home game for the Tigers, but will they want to be there would be a good question to ask. Houston, a very good AAC team, gets a chance here to show what they can do against a pretty good SEC opponent. Houston should be up for this game, and despite the partisan crowd, will make a good showing. It might be close.

Hou -5

First Responder Bowl - AF vs Louisville

I first left this one off, too damn many of these "bowl" games to keep up with. For not real particular reason here I will go ahead and pick AF here. Louisville is down this year.

AF -3

Liberty Bowl - Texas Tech vs Miss State

Mike Leach gets to face his old school when the Bulldogs face off with the Red Raiders. Tech is Tech as usual. Never can really figure out what they will do or are capable of on any given week. The same can really be said for Mississippi State. This will be a home game for the Bulldogs as we can be sure their fans will travel the fairly short distance to Memphis. They are also the better team, unless of course the Raiders bring their "A" game. You just never know.

Miss State -8

Holiday Bowl - UCLA vs NC State

This game has been around for a while and has some pretty good match ups. This isn't one of them. Go with NC State here despite it being a home game for the Bruins. It should be noted however that the PAC 12 is marginally better than the ACC right now.

NC State -10

Another Wuhan Virus cancellation. It is a shame NC State could not get another opponent. At this point, it wouldn't have mattered who it was. Was Rice available?

Guaranteed Rate Bowl (the what?) WVU vs Minnesota

Did this game used to be called something else? I don't remember. Whatever. WVU with a 6-6 record is just not a very good team this year. The Gophers come in with a better record and should win here.

Minnesota -9

Fenway Bowl - SMU vs Virginia

SMU looked for a while there like they just might make it all the way in the AAC. They fell off somewhat but are still a very dangerous team for anyone outside of the top 15 to face. Virginia, not terribly competitive in the ACC comes to the table with a 6-6 record and is on a 4-game skid. Smart money would be with SMU.

SMU -11

Addendum - Another Bowl cancellation this time from the People's Republic of MA. To be fair, apparently VA wanted to cancel due to Wuhan Virus "concerns."

Pinstripe Bowl - Virginia Tech vs Maryland

What is up with the cold weather bowls that have sprung up of late? No matter really. This game features two average teams. Maryland is in the tougher conference by far (at least this season) and is the better team. VA Tech did come close against Notre Dame (an over rated team as usual) and that might be their main selling point. Maryland, another 6-6 team, started off strong but it pretty much went downhill from there. This is a pick but I might, just might go with the Terps here, Why? Tougher schedule.

Maryland -2

Cheez It Bowl - Clemson vs Iowa State

This one might be pretty good. Clemson is not the team they have been of late and their entire conference is, for lack of a better word, just plain bad. At least this season. Plus, the Tigers might not really want to be here considering the recent success in big time college ball. Iowa State is usually happy just to get an invite somewhere decent and has faced a tougher schedule. Still, Clemson might be the better team here and could sneak by. It probably depends on the motivation of the Clemson players. Iowa State will be motivated. We will see

Clemson - 4

Alamo Bowl - Oregon vs Oklahoma

This is a major bowl and neither team wants to be here. Both squads believe they deserve better. They don't. The winner will depend on who wants to be here at all. Oklahoma is the better team but they probably just don't really want to play. We will see

Oregon -5

Duke's Mayo Bowl - NC vs SC

Well at least both teams are regional and that will help attendance. The game is in Charlotte so it could be considered a home game for the Tar Heels. This is really kind of a ho hum match up. Hmmm I would go with SC due to having played in the tougher conference. No other reason than that really.

SC -6

Las Vegas Bowl - Wisconsin vs Arizona State

Arizona State looked like they might be the real deal for a bit as did Wisconsin, Both teams are probably disappointed somewhat that they are playing in this one, although it has become a pretty good bowl game. Wisconsin has faced a tougher schedule and will win here.

Wisconsin -10

Gator Bowl - Wake Forest vs TAMU

Both teams had pretty good seasons really. There are still a lot of questions about the WF squad, I think. Which team will show up? The Aggies did take down the Tide earlier in the season and that is always an accomplishment, and the rest of the schedule was tougher. I would go with the Aggies.

TAMU -8

Addendum - It appears the Aggies are not going to be playing this game due to a Wuhan Virus "outbreak." Question I would like answered, is it mainly the starters? Could they not play the scrubs if there was no major outbreak anong that group? No matter. As of this writing, it seems that Rutgers will be the like opponent. Rutgers has a losing record and has not had any practice so they will likely have trouble competing here. One never knows though. At least it appears there will be a game. I won't place a line on this game.

Sun Bowl - Washington State vs Miami

This is a bowl that has been around a long time although, much like the Liberty Bowl and Independence Bowl, is considered to be a lower-level bowl game. That is until every 6-6 team in the nation it seems gets an invite to some other post season shindig or other. Miami was expected to do better and may even be a factor nationally. It didn't happen. WSU comes in at 7-5 and 6-3 in conference and that is often considered to be a very good year around those parts. I will put my money on Washington State.

WSU - 8

Addendum: Miami has dropped out due to the Wuhan Virus, or fear of getting their clocked cleaned. One or the other. It appears that Central Michigan will step up here with no fear.

CMU -3

Cotton Bowl - Cincinnati vs Bama

This will be one to watch and the winner gets to play for all the marbles. It irks the championship "committee" that they have to place the Cats in this one. They truly hoped for Notre Dame or anyone to give them an excuse to keep them out of this. Of course, the whole system is a corrupt sham but that is a topic for another day. OK. Alabama has more talent. That goes without saying. They proved that last week with a complete thrashing of Georgia. Folks say that this Tide squad is not quite as good as some in the recent past. Maybe so, maybe not. Cincinnati is not "just happy to be here" as they say. They come to win and prove that the so called "group of five" conferences play some damn good football and deserve more respect. They will fall just short here and lose this one, but they have shown some stuff.

Bama -13

Arizona Bowl = Central Michigan vs Boise State

This could be a pretty good game. Or not. Boise State is a better team than their record presents. What about CMU? They are on a 4-game streak and that says something in any conference. It is not a terribly interesting match up to me but it will be for some. I would go with the Broncos here.

Another Cancellation due to Wuhan Virus "concerns." It appears that Central Michigan will make the move to the Sun Bowl after Miami opted out.

BSU - 9

Orange Bowl - Georgia vs Michigan

Whoever wins here will play for the National Championship against, most likely (but far from certain), Alabama. Michigan showed that they are back, at least for this season, as did Georgia. The beat down that Georgia took against the Tide last week has folks talking. For a while it seemed like everyone just assumed Georgia was it and that was that. Not so fast. Michigan will win this one. It could be close.

Michigan -6

Outback Bowl - Arkansas vs Penn State

Arkansas finally had a season where they were very competitive in the SEC. That doesn't usually happen. They played Bama tough and the game was closer than the score. This Hogs team is for real. Is Penn State? The Big Ten, this season, is pretty darn good but the Lions did not do as well as they hoped for in conference play. Arkansas is the better team, but will that be enough for the win. Going out on a limb here to pick PSU to eeeck this one out.

PSU -1

Fiesta Bowl - Oklahoma State vs Notre Dame

This year, like usually, Notre Dame is overrated. Not as much as in most seasons though. Oklahoma State has again proven to be the better program in Oklahoma and they are certainly a better team than the Irish. The game has to be played to find out for sure and this will be a big one. Go with the Cowboys here.

Oklahoma State -12

Citrus Bowl - Iowa vs Kentucky

This is one of the most interesting match ups of the post season. Iowa was totally embarrassed in the Big Ten championship game against the, in my opinion, the eventual national champion. With that being said, the Hawkeyes are for real and a darn good football team. Kentucky has had a much better than average season in the SEC and have proven to be a tough opponent for anyone. Talent might favor Iowa but the SEC schedule is, top to bottom, somewhat, but only by a small fraction, than the Big Ten this season. I will pick Iowa for the win.

Iowa -9

Rose Bowl - Ohio State vs Utah

Another good match this one is. Ohio State had a legitimate shot at playing for it all and Utah outperformed the competition, with one exception in PAC 12. They did not do so good in non conference play however going 1-2 with their lone non conference win against an FCS school. Ohio State is the better team, but they wanted, and might have had it all. They may not be up for this one like they should be. That would be stupid, this is the Rose Bowl after all, but in the current system.....

OSU -8

Sugar Bowl - Ole Miss vs Baylor

This will be a great game or it least it should be. These are some darn good football teams. Both have played top notch competition this season so won't be startled by facing another good squad. Baylor may have the edge here and I will go with them. Whoever wins we do know one thing certain. New Orleans will be rocking.

Baylor - 6

Texas Bowl - LSU vs Kansas State

LSU comes in at 6-6 and that just won't do for Tiger fans. Many of them might not even be interested in this game enough to travel although Houston has enough LSU fans in the city to fill the stadium. Kansas State has had an up and down year and was humiliated by a just plain bad Texas team to end the season. They might, just might, have something to prove. Of course, so do the Tigers. This will be a good one and I will go out on a long limb here and go with KSU.

KSU -6

Till next time.

BC

Bartender Cabbiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05623813045706584212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6661288566810922442.post-16257577358677734182021-12-07T08:26:00.003-06:002021-12-07T08:27:37.078-06:00Truth and Questions from The Cab #14 With Rule 5
Well, it has been over a year since I did anything with this and my writing skills (never great to begin with) will be rusty. That would fall into the "who gives a rusty fuck" category.

There has been so much, most of it bad, that has happened to our country in the last year that it is almost impossible to even know where to begin. That said, here goes...

1. Notre Dame University has apparently initiated a mandate for folks to take the booster. I think that I would just find another school. Also, on an unrelated note, Notre Dame plays in no college football conference championship game and therefore should not be eligible for entry into the kind of corrupt college football championship series.

2. The University of Cincinatti does deserve a shot at being the national champion of FBS college football. I don't think it will happen, but the games have to be played.

On to more important truths and questions...

3. Do you think these vaccines have any value? Are they dangerous? Would you take one? If you have, would you take the booster?

4. Deaths after the jab are not really from "climate change" or post pandemic depression, etc. etc. It is because of the jab, particularly the "boosters" it seems.

5. How in Hell did the "Squad" become such a force in American politics? Can't we just tell these little twits to STFU? In a sane world that would be the case.

5. There is a guy who writes a blog called "Welcome Back to Pottersville" that I used to read here and there. He is nuts. I checked in today and he is still going strong. Believe the dude's name is Crawford or something. His main schtick used to be to beg for money on the internet. I wonder if her ever found a job. It has, after all, been years. Oh yes, he was a Navy Seal in Vietnam or so he says. I haven't bothered to confirm this. At any rate, if inclined to read the ramblings of a real fool, check him out. He is every bit as crazy as the CNN folks. Maybe more, if that is even possible.

6. The election was won by Trump. You know it as well as I do.

7. Was the Wuhan Virus a biological warfare attack? I think you probably know my opinion on that one.

8. Should A. Cuomo be charged in the deaths of a multitude of elderly patients during the beginning of the Wuhan Virus attack?

9. An employer should not be allowed to ask anyone's vaccine status.

10. It is apparent that the weaker the U.S. is that dangerous players on the world stage will become emboldened and perhaps make moves detrimental to peace. Take a look at the Russian/Ukraine situation. Putin is not the type of dude to bluff.

11.Should we just call Don Lemon of CNN Don "Lemons?" You know, because of the "S" at the end of words thing.

12. The surrender to the Taliban was and is perhaps the most humiliating thing that politicians have allowed to happen to our country. How many of our people are still there?

13. The Australian government is out of control. What do you suppose keeps the American leftists from trying the same thing on us? You know the answer to that.

14. Germany is dividing folks into the vaxxed vs unvaxxed. Interesting that they have not seemed to learn yet where that kind of thinking can lead.

15. Jesse and the Nigerians seem to be the big deal at the time of this writing. Really that is an open and shut simple case. The truly important one is being ignored for the most part by the media. Why is that? You know the answer, don't you? I think you do.

16. There is no such thing as "white privilege." That is just a smokescreen buzz phrase to keep us divided and at each other's throats. Just like the CCP intended.

17. We know Biden is not really in charge. Who is?

18 Who in the Hell does the mayor of NYC think he is? His mandates are so much horse manure. Something to be ignored. Really, he should be tarred and feathered. Apparent he can't be cream cheesed and feathered because of, well, the cream cheese supply chain situation.

19. Many folks who consider themselves "liberal" have left the Democrat(ic) Party as they see it devolve into Bolshevism, Fascism, and perhaps, in some cases, full blown National Socialism.

20. Yes Dumbass Sheila Jackson Lee is still around and still a dumbass. She is the poster child for term limitations.

21. This is the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor? Did you remember?

That's about enough. Ready for some Rule 5? How about this hottie in a coffee shop?

Bartender Cabbiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05623813045706584212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6661288566810922442.post-8966811092285556252020-10-09T07:03:00.004-05:002020-10-09T07:03:50.268-05:00Truth and Questions From the Cab #13
It has been quite a while since I did any writing work and I am sure I am way out of practice. But, as they say, who gives a rusty fuck? Oh well, here goes.....

1. Dumbass Sheila Jackson Lee is somehow still in office and is still a dumbass.

2. Dumbass Sheila Jackson Lee might no longer be the biggest dumbass to occupy the hallowed halls of congress any longer. The place is full of maniacs of which Lee is only one.

3. Do you think that AOC looks a bit like Mr. Ed? Would you still like to, you know, do the nasty with her? Here and there as it might be.

4. This Mohammedan Omar "lady" is a problem. You know it. I know it.

5. Have you seen the NCAA college football schedule? Pretty slim. Not sure if we can thank just Red China for that. Other forces seem to be at play here.

6. Do you think that the Wuhan Virus was a carefully crafted biological attack that was designed to throw the world in chaos? Did they think it would make them stronger? Did it work?

7. Usually if told to stop and obey by a police officer, things will be OK. Usually.

8. Should the little jump that guy did when popped in the arm by Kyle be called the "Kenosha Bunny Hop?" A bit of an indelicate question I know, but a legitimate one nonetheless.

9. Do you really believe there is all that much "systemic racism" in this country? Personally I don't buy it. Work hard and you might just make it no matter your skin tone. Or not. It is a fair playing field.

10. Is college football even interesting anymore?

11. Do you bother to watch the NBA/NFL/NBA?

I'll do better next time.
Bartender Cabbiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05623813045706584212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6661288566810922442.post-27980056467400335992018-02-25T17:46:00.001-06:002018-03-04T07:23:00.618-06:00Truth and Questions from the Cab #12 with Rule 5As usual there are some truths that need to be addressed and questions to be asked.......

1. If Dumbass Sheila Jackson Lee, Maxine Waters, and Frederica Wilson were a singing group; what would they be called?

2. Speaking of Dumbass Lee, she has a challenger in the Democratic Primary. He is reported to be rather intelligent. He doesn't stand a chance.

3. What happens to the young folk who like to hunt after the minimum age to purchase a "long" gun is raised? Probably doesn't matter. There are long guns aplenty out there. Few will give them up I'm guessing.

4. It does appear that the citizenry has finally had enough of these mass shootings and now the NRA is truly being painted as the "bad guy(s)." Even by supposed rational mainstream folk.........

5. An "AR15" type rifle is just a sexy hunting rifle. Nothing more. These so called bump stocks however.......Is it a good idea to outlaw such?

6. I'm going to say this once and the offended can just be damned.......There are folks on the left who are quite happy when a nut goes crazy with a gun. They love it truly! It helps further their agenda and no one quite believes their crocodile tears. These people are human waste...You know who you are.

7. It is reported that those North Korean cheerleaders that everyone was fawning over are being utilized as sex slaves. I don't for a minute doubt it.

8. Lil Kim's sister (the N. Korean strongman, not the below average rap hooker), was quite a hit at the games. She probably ranks up their with Himmler or Che. Or some such.....

9. Black lives do indeed matter. So do White lives, etc. etc. etc.

10. Most of the folk in Charlottesville were not "Neo-Nazi" types. A small handful perhaps.

11. Did renowned novelist Robert Crawford (and former Navy Seal, allegedly) aka Jurasicpork ever get a real job? It has, after all, been years. Guess I'll run over to his blog and see if he is still begging errr soliciting donations.

Bout enough for now.

Till next time.
Out of practice a bit. Here goes....

Dumbass Sheila Jackson Lee has been back in the public eye of late. It all started with her valuable contributions to the rescue efforts Harvey (we couldn't have done without her) and continues babbling without too much let up. Damn she is funny.

Why does that silly hooker Frederica Wilson continue to wear those stupid hats. Does she perhaps out dumbass Dumbass Sheila Jackson Lee? I think she wants to boycott the State of the Union address or some such. She shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the halls of congress with her hookerish get up anyway. Unless she is offering hummers of course. With that crowd she probably would have takers. They would have to be relatively bargain priced though I would imagine (or hate to imagine).

I don't really agree with some of the things Trump is doing. I have somewhat mellowed on the immigration issue, (except from most Mohammedan nations or some other "shithole" nations - sorry). A personal situation has come up which changed my thought process on the Mexican immigration thing.
Without getting into the situation too much, an acquaintance has recently returned to Mexico with plans to come back. An illegal alien of course he would be considered. I wish him all the luck in the world and would willingly shelter him if needed. So be it.

I have been teaching the last few years at a school that has a number of illegal alien children. It is apparently policy that schools are "safe places" and that the ICE "police" officers can not make arrests. I think hospitals and a few other places are also off limits (for now) for the ICE folks.

With all that being said, I am still in favor of a wall. A wall that would be near impossible to breach. I am also for a rational policy that allows many folks who are here to stay - provided they have a "path to citizenship." Of course those who are real criminals have to go. Now.

I have eased up a bit on that issue as you can see.

The Cleveland Browns had a perfect season. Something to be proud of in a twisted way I would suppose.

Did you see the Saints snatch defeat from the jaws of victory Sunday last. The Saints are masters at this but even that was a bit extreme. On a side note, it is interesting that the Texans had Case Keenum (Viking QB) twice and of course cut him twice. What idiots. Case would have been an exceptional back up for Watson. Certainly better than what they have. There are times one wonders about the managerial skills with the Houston organization.

The SEC proved (again) to be the best conference in college football. Perhaps not as powerful as in some years but a step above for certain. Also, when do you think that the Crimson Tide will not be right there? Probably not as long as The Evil One is HC.

That is about all for now I guess. I'll update with some Rule 5 in a day or so.

Don't know if it has anything to do with the election of Hair or not. Guess I could blame everything on him. Why not? Everyone else does....

Oh well... . For starters this has been a fairly predicable and, let us be honest, just sort of interesting year in college football. Alabama is the team to beat apparently which is no surprise, the close call with Mississippi State not withstanding. It looks like Notre Dame and Miami are finally back and real contenders. That is somewhat of a surprise. I don't like the Fighting Irish, never have. I do however like the "U" and always have. Florida is dismal and LSU is just enough above average to be in the top 25. Kinds of squeaking in mind..... I don't guess that is all that much of a surprise though......Update - The beat-down the Canes handed the Irish was epic. It doesn't mean however that Notre Dame is not back. They are. Just not quite as back to relevance as Miami. Not yet.

The Astros won the World Series. I'm not sure if that was surprising or not. I had kind of lost interest after their move to the not real baseball league. Of course now it is time to bandwagon and get on board with the team. Yes I know I'm a hypocrite Oh, that reminds me.....Dumbass Sheila Jackson Lee made a statement after the Series win and of course she made a fool of herself. She is the "gift that keeps on giving" as one Houston talk show "great" observes. When she called Altuve "Altouy" or some such well, that was Sheila at his best. Damn she is hilarious. It is doubtful that the folks in her district will vote her out so I suppose we are going to be blessed with her comedy for some time to come. Another Houston buffoon, one Al Green (not to be confused with the crooner of the same name), does not even come close to Sheila J. Lee. He does have cool hair though. Wonder what kind of grease he uses.....?

This NFL thing has somewhat cooled down I guess but it seems like the damage may have already been done. Attendance and viewership is supposedly down. At least for a time. These punks who kneel or sit during the Anthem really should be fired. Without question or recourse.

Till next time.
College football has been somewhat interesting....a couple of "upsets" of note although I'm not really certain that Memphis' victory over UCLA or Northern Illinois over Nebraska can really qualify as major upsets.

I did go to the Bayou Bucket Saturday last. For the uninitiated the "Bayou Bucket" is a rivalry game that is played periodically between the University of Houston and Rice. I have been to a number of them and I believe this is the first time I have ever witnessed the Cougars emerge in the W column. The game? An uninteresting blowout to be sure. UH may have a top 25 team,...too early to tell. It will be a long year for the Owls...not too early to tell that certain.
The most interesting part of the evening was no doubt halftime. First responders were honored and standing among the various folks was none other than Dumbass Sheila Jackson Lee. Not real sure what the congresswoman did during the storm (Harvey) to be of much help other than getting her mug (and "hair") on the tube a couple of times which of course provided some much needed comedy relief. Oh, the announcer called Sylvester Turner, (mayor of Houston), Sylvester Stallone on the PA system. By damn that was funny.

Funny indeed.

Till next time......Bartender Cabbiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05623813045706584212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6661288566810922442.post-79613691529121412282017-09-07T21:05:00.000-05:002017-09-18T18:33:59.461-05:00Live Blogging From the Aftermath of Harvey The storm known as Harvey has come and gone. Things are starting to get back to a more "normal" state in SE Texas although it will be quite a while before all is well. There are neighborhoods still flooded, houses damaged to the point of destruction, and of course some areas where one would not have known anything happened at all. Now Irma is out and about and it looks like it will have a major impact on the SE United States. Have you seen an image of the Caribbean and Gulf? Three storms at once is impressive to be sure......Not a whole lot can be said about it further other than I hope things turn out OK.

In other news....It is interesting that three "major" Texas college football teams fell in rather embarrassing fashion. Sumlin should be fired after the Aggie performance and Baylor has huge problems. It seems like Baylor finds trouble no matter what. At least no one was killed up Waco way this time. Remember the Bear basketball scandal a few years back....? Oh the Longhorns, they are just being the Longhorns. It may be a long year....We will see how the Cougars do - their game was postponed due to the storm.

I just watched another pro football player (KC Chief) decide not to stand during our national anthem. I wonder if any coach has the cajones to just tell players "you don't stand you will sit." I doubt it. Probably get "Black Lives Matter" or some other group of morons giving them crap.

Oh well, we will see what this week brings. Will it be more mainland hurricane destruction, another "gift package" from Lil Kim, or more wildfires out west? Maybe these Antifa twats will make an appearance somewhere. Wouldn't it be fun to see one of those cats get hit in the mouth with a stick?

You know it would.Bartender Cabbiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05623813045706584212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6661288566810922442.post-8738986277259630412017-08-30T19:06:00.001-05:002017-08-30T19:06:59.839-05:00Live Blogging from Harvey Part II Well the storm has finally left Houston alone and went on to pound areas just east of here. Port Arthur, Beaumont, and SW Louisiana seem to have been popped pretty heavily. Inland areas also have not been and will not be immune to the wrath of this prick storm. It looks like NOLA has been spared. That at least is good news.

Down in these parts (Brazoria County - just south of Houston) got hit fairly hard but the main problem is likely to be in a couple of days when the Brazos River (among others perhaps)rages out. Almost the entire county west of the Brazos is in peril. Folks should not be at home. This is a huge problem but certainly not the only one in the area. What a mess.

It is reported that a chemical facility in Crosby, TX. (just to the NE of Houston proper) is in danger of having some explosive potential. We will see. Some have said that it has potential to rival the explosion in West, TX. a few years back. Hope not.
Not much else to report I guess.

Bartender Cabbiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05623813045706584212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6661288566810922442.post-82854201737876032992017-08-29T13:39:00.001-05:002017-08-29T13:39:35.313-05:00Live Blogging From Harvey The Hurricane is finally moving beyond us in the area just south of Houston. Rainfall has lessened substantially and the wind has shifted. Heck, I would not be too surprised if the sun peeked out later today in this area. Who knows. Right now getting some pretty strong winds (out of the north) and a stray squall is moving through but it surely feels better to be on the "clean" side of the storm.

Anyone watching the news or perusing the marvelous invention of Mr. Gore has seen the devastation that has occurred (and is still occurring) in the Houston area. It is truly, as they say, an epic event. The next couple of days will likely see some pretty damaging weather in parts of Louisiana, East Texas, and maybe other inland areas. The economic costs to the country will be in the trillions some say. That is something to contemplate.

Some of the rivers and creeks that have been filled by the tremendous amounts of rain have and will continue to rise. In some areas this storm has just begun for those in harms way. Doesn't matter if the sun is shining or not. In my area that is (likely) not to be a problem. Never can be too sure though.

Today it was my distinct pleasure to kill a pretty coral snake. Normally I have no quarrel with them but when one shows up in my yard (which they tend to do when seeking dry(er) ground), well you can be sure I send it to meet the virgins or Chippendales (or whatever happens when coral snakes die in "combat"). Someone call PETA. Quick! Had the same problem with squirrels a few years back. They somehow chewed their way into my attic and war was declared. Many a squirrel died from wounds sustained from a cheap Daisy pellet gun that was purchased from the evil empire. Did not use a shotgun as it might alarm the neighbors. Well probably not. I am by far the least redneck person in my immediate vicinity. Most likely anyway....The squirrels and I are now in truce mode and will be so unless they decide to try another attic raid. By the way, the only reason we did not have squirrel stew (a lot of it) was that my better half would not have it. City bred folk..........

It is interesting that all kinds of armchair pundits are calling for the mayor of Houston's (one Sylvester Turner -Democrat) head for not issuing "mandatory" evacuation orders. People have died as a result they say. True enough. More people would have died in a mass exodus. That is the way it usually goes. I am not a huge fan of Mr. Turner probably but I have no problem with the way he is handling the situation. Seems to be doing as good a job as anybody else could in a trying situation and he made the right call. If you think otherwise you are doing it because of political motivation. That or you are just stupid. Hard to say.....

In other news, it looks like Lil Kim has decided to "test" more rockets. I wonder if one of those weirdly uniformed flunkies that follow him around with notepads has the cajones to have him whacked. I'm sure someone would (U.S., Korea (South), Japan, hell maybe even some in Red China, would like to see the world shed of him and pay a pretty penny to men of action. Oh well. He does serve a purpose for the Red Chinese.....Only reason he is still there I would reckon..

Till next time.Bartender Cabbiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05623813045706584212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6661288566810922442.post-28811165080865524832017-08-22T20:05:00.000-05:002017-08-22T20:10:12.936-05:00I Always Liked DobermansI have always liked Dobermans. They are beautiful, loyal animals although not the easiest creature to raise. They can sometimes be a bit feisty. Right about now I just have a couple of generic mutts and I doubt I will get another registered (or otherwise) Doberman in this lifetime. One was enough. He was great fun. His name was Jubal Early.

In other news, it appears that UT Austin is short some statues after they were removed late last Sunday. Typical cowardice from those who fear the PC crowd.

Apparently a tropical system is heading in the general direction of Houston. That sucks! Those things tend to be somewhat of a pain in the ass.Bartender Cabbiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05623813045706584212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6661288566810922442.post-17965992630724905852017-08-19T20:17:00.000-05:002017-08-22T19:57:05.884-05:00OK. Time to Spout My Two CentsIt has been a long time since I have had much interest in working with this ole blog but of late I have been thinking a good deal about it. I was about to get cranked up last year but just never got going. At any rate.....

The college football season is fast approaching. I am, as usual, rather interested in the upcoming festivities. That being said, I have not really taken much time for my half baked analysis but I may get into that some (time permitting).

Over here Houston way there have not been too many Dumbass Sheila Jackson Lee sightings and that is truly a shame. Good comedy is hard to come by these days. Another esteemed gentleman, one Al Green, has somewhat taken her place as the resident buffoon. Not quite there yet......I'm sure Sheila will chime in with some way out nonsense soon though.

Since the last time I have written anything we have (for better or worse) changed the guard in DC. I am happy to report that I did not vote for Trump and certainly not for that lady...Nor did I vote for either of the other sort of "mainstream" candidates. Nope. I chose a write in and am proud to have done so.
However I have become more and more of a supporter of the current POTUS. He was duly elected (although there is still whining about this "popular vote" thing again which of course means nothing), and there is an effort (organized?) to topple him.

I think what has finally prompted me to "write' again some (boy I feel rusty) is the problem with "identity politics" that has finally spun out of control. Well, that and the very real (or not) threat of 'Lil Kim over there in sunny North Korea.

Oh well.....with any further preliminary nonsense, I will just get on with some of my thoughts on various issues.......

I have just noticed that Duke University has taken down a statue of Marse Robert on campus. Typical. And here I was a Blue Devil (football) fan. Oh, apparently it is no longer forbidden to begin a sentence with "And". Just saying....As far as the statue goes, I would say this university president, a fellow by the name of Vincent Price (apparently) might be pussy.

It is probable that his whole destroy relics thing has roots in the PC movement. I first heard of Political Correctness sometime in the 80's. I didn't pay any attention to it of course but I do remember that is was a time where bows were in style for young ladies. "Bowheads" I believe they were called...Reagan was still POTUS and the real Soviet Union still existed. This is where this whole identity politics thing got started I think. Of course others will point out that it was the "hippy days" that began the "downfall"...I don't know...

Mohammedans are still a problem. They will continue to be so in the future. Certainly in my lifetime the problem won't be solved. Likely our grandchildren will still be dealing with the followers of the Prophet. There have been so many terrorist attacks (in this country and otherwise) that I have sort of lost count. Spain is in the news right now.........Oh before I forget, it seems that this ISIS (ISIL, whatever), while pretty much defeated militarily, was not the "JV team" as the previous POTUS said.

Mohammedans? Who the hell can keep up with all the players? Who are the good guys? Are there any? The Kurds seem to be a pretty reliable bunch (although they scare shit out of our Turkish "allies"). That really poses a bit of a conundrum. The Kurds seem worth supporting but since they frighten the Turks ...what do we do? It seems like the West needs Turkey as they scare the Soviets (err Russia). That is a political problem. Perhaps a Kurdish homeland carved out of parts of Syria, Iraq and Iran with guarantees to Turkey would be prudent. Doubt the Turks will go for it. It is, like I said, a conundrum.

I won't go too terribly much deeper into the statue defacing (removal) thing that is going on now. Not just right this minute anyway. I will say I am against it and no mistake. It is not quite a revolution of the Bolsheviks yet, but it has the earmarks of the beginning of such. I agree that they aren't going to just stop at having historical monuments removed. The Confederacy is an easy target and of course it doesn't help matters that Klan groups, Neo "Nazis" and assorted such silly folk seem to be the only people willing to really publicly protest to keep history from defacement, debasement, and erasure. Everyone else appears to be just a bit to frightened to be called a "racist." Or something.

Over here in Texas there are some who even want to get rid of the Sam Houston statues. I suppose they don't understand that he was adamantly opposed to Texas leaving the Union. Be that as it may, I am kind of thinking that there won't be anyone messing with monuments concerning Texas history. (Not if they value their physical well being). Except of course Texas history that happens to be of a "Confederate" nature. That will probably be fair game. Why just today "Black Lives Matter" ( I hate that moniker, all lives matter you dickweeds) staged a protest of sorts about the Confederacy in a Houston park. Haven't heard of any problems. Yet.

Is it just me or am I the only person who would like to have seen the "lady" who was on top of the statue in Durham, NC. take a spill? She is a rather portly woman I noticed. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Need to lose a few pounds myself......I think she was arrested at least. If she would have fallen and broken her fool neck, she would have been touted as a martyr and hero of sorts. Everyone would know her name. You can bet on that.

That is about all for today I guess. Glad to be back.

By God!
Plenty of drivel on the way.Bartender Cabbiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05623813045706584212noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6661288566810922442.post-25266063560195108912015-01-16T19:14:00.000-06:002015-01-19T06:25:03.696-06:00BartenderCabbie System College Football Final Top 25 2014 SeasonIt was a pretty good and entertaining 2014 season. There was, as usual, plenty of surprises, the prowess of TCU and the real weakness of FSU to name a couple. It is also a bit surprising that Ohio State actually lived up to their potential (3 QBs who could start anywhere else is a good thing to have apparently), and of course predictably Oklahoma fell short (way short this time) of their potential. That being said here is the final Bartendercabbie System Top 25 for (as us purists call it) Division I.

1. Ohio State: Proven on the field of play.
2. Oregon: Toss up between this group and the Frogs. A Heisman winning QB who is not a ego maniacal punk or (alleged) criminal? What is up with that?
3. TCU: A team that should have been in the mix in this newfangled college football "playoff system." Fast bunch.
4. Alabama: I don't think the Saban/Kiffin thing will last long term.
5. Michigan State: Another good showing
6. Baylor: Had some ups and downs but a well coached ball club. Has talent
7. Florida State: Finally exposed but did run through their conference somehow. Too many close calls in a rather weak league for them to be considered a top 4 team frankly. Not that they aren't a good team. They are.
8. Georgia Tech: Not quite sure if they deserve to be this high, but they did take care of business when it needed to be done.
9. UCLA: Improving. Will be a force in the PAC 12 and perhaps nationally next season. Well coached.
10. Mississippi State: Frankly a dream season although the faithful are disappointed. Well coached.
11. Mizzou: Good football team in the sort of overlooked SEC East.
12. Georgia: Has talent. Coaching suspect.
13. Boise State: New man moves over from Arkansas State and keeps things moving forward. Funny this ASU seems to be the cradle of top notch coaches here of late.
14. Clemson: Made a statement in their bowl outing. Well coached. A rebuild this season.
15. Ole Miss: Can be a Top 5 team on a good day. Can be fairly horrible on a bad.
16. Kansas State: Snyder again does something with almost nothing.
17. Arizona State: OK
18. Arizona: Ditto
19. Wisconsin: Pretty good. Rather tough schedule.
20. Arkansas: Better than a good many teams with nicer looking records. A team to watch in the SEC next season. Perhaps nationally?
21. Memphis: Keep the staff together and they may be able to build on a great season.
22. USC: Improved since the departure of that damn fool Kiffin.
23. Marshall: Best of CUSA hands down despite the upset by WKU. Should scare any team in the top 25.
24. Auburn: Well coached. Decent team. Fans not happy but a better coach is not likely to be found. Anywhere.
25. Louisville: OK.

On the bubble
Utah: Just not convinced this squad is top 25 material this season.
Air Force: Best of the Service Schools.
Utah State: Perhaps, just perhaps, the best team in the state of Utah when all was said and done.
BYU: Would have been a power had Hill not gone down. Likely would have been a club that finished in the top 15.
Duke: A good season for Blue Devil football. Not quite up to last year's squad but a decent team none the less. Great staff. Can they sustain?
Notre Dame: Most thought they were finally for real. They weren't. Had a nice win over a rebuilding LSU squad over in Nashville to cap off the season.
Georgia Southern: The class of the Sun Belt was not eligible for post season. Pity. Might have surprised some folk.
Louisiana: The Cajuns are a good Sun Belt club. Again.
Northern Illinois: Best of the MAC.
Nebraska: OK. Maybe. A long way to go before anyone takes them real seriously on the national level.
Minnesota: A good season for Gopher football. Can they keep building on this moderate success?
Louisiana Tech: Looked like a team that can compete some on a bigger stage (the loss to FCS Northwestern State notwithstanding).
UCF: Dangerous to anyone on a good day.
Houston: I would have given the coaching staff a bit more time. Might have made a good hire though. Time will tell.
Stanford: Off year. Will they revert back to the Stanford we know and love after quite a few years of being pretty darn good? Time will tell.
LSU: Hmmmm. Probably not. Maybe
PSU: Ditto
Colorado State: Good MWC team but Top 25 material they are not.
Texas Aggies: A rebuild year. What will Sumlin do without a stellar college QB behind center? This year sort of showed that I guess. Say what you will about Johnny "Football" but he did some amazing stuff in college. Yes I know he's a punk and not NFL material. Perhaps he should change his handle to "Johnny Arena Football?
Oklahoma: What the hell happened? Loaded with talent. Loaded.
Bowling Green: Pretty much time to stop...

It was a super year of college ball and I hope you enjoyed the season as much as I did. Stay tuned. More to come........
ND State predictably won but it was not easy. Not by a long shot. The Redbirds came to play......One can only hope the D1 game is as entertaining.
On a side note, one thing that both the Bison and Redbirds had in common this year is that both lost to Northern Iowa. Oh, and both teams are members of the MVC. So in essence the game was both for the FCS Championship and the MVC Championship.

A good game it was.Bartender Cabbiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05623813045706584212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6661288566810922442.post-23184020876904063322014-12-20T09:41:00.001-06:002014-12-20T09:41:56.330-06:00College Football Bowl Predictions 2014 SeasonThe college football bowl season is upon us, starting today in fact, and there are some good match ups and some that leave a bit to be desired. Nothing unusual there...
The BartenderCabbie System is 97-53 straight up this season and with that being said, on to the predictions.......

1. Nola Bowl: This one is a pretty good match up between the Cajuns and the Wolfpack of Nevada. This game has become a regular stop for Louisiana and they have been quite successful here. Nevada brings a pretty darn good team and I would go with them for the win.

2. New Mexico Bowl: Utah State vs UTEP for this one. These particular Aggies of Utah are one of those teams that the "big boys" in college ball are (or should be) a little leery of facing. They are the better of the two and will win here.

3. Las Vegas Bowl: The Utes are likely a deeper team than the Rams of CSU but look for the team from Colorado to pull off a minor upset.

4. Idaho Potato Bowl: This bowl on the blue field is not very interesting this year. Air Force is the better of the two and will find themselves victorious over WMU.

5. Camellia Bowl: The what? South Alabama vs Bowling Green? Too many bowl games to be sure. I would go with South Alabama here for no real good reason.

6. Miami Beach Bowl: Now this should be a good game. Memphis is under rated and well coached and BYU got derailed a bit early with the loss of their stellar QB. Both good teams and I would go with the Tigers for the win.

7. Boca Raton Bowl: If you happen to be in the Miami area for the prior game you may as well stick around and catch this one between Marshall and NIU. The Herd may be thinking this is a consolation game of sorts after being talked about for most of the season as a team that might get a "New Years" bowl. WKU spoiled that for them. They will have to guard against a "let down" performance. NIU is the best of the MAC, although they have had better squads in the recent past. Go with Marshall for the win here.

8. Poinsettia Bowl: SDSU vs the Midshipmen might be an interesting match up. Navy has relinquished (for this year) the title of "best of the service schools" and SDSU can be pretty good. This is a toss up and I will go with SDSU for the win.

9. Bahamas Bowl: OK. This one between CMU and WKU could be decent. Both teams are under the radar for the most part and also both are pretty darn good squads for their respective conferences. Go with the Hilltoppers in a close one.

10. Hawaii Bowl: Fresno State vs Rice? Will anyone show up? Rice has trouble getting asses in the seats at home even when they have a pretty good season (which has become par for the course of late). That being said, the Owls are likely the marginally better team and will come away with a victory. Rice needs to find a way to keep their coaching staff intact.

11. Heart of Dallas Bowl: Illinois and Louisiana Tech square off in what would likely be a toss up. The Bulldogs are slightly under rated perhaps and Illinois is Illinois. Well the did reach a bowl game (of sorts)......Go with the Louisiana team in what some would consider a minor upset.

12. Quick Lane Bowl: Rutgers vs NC may or may not be worth watching. Early in the season some folk picked the Tar Heels to be a team worth watching. They were not. Other folks said that there was no way Rutgers could compete in the "powerful" Big Ten. They can. What does all this mean? Not much other than it might be a decent game. Go with the team from NJ in a close one.

13. St. Petersburg Bowl: UCF is not the team they were last year but still a dangerous team to most anyone on a good day. There is not much to NC State frankly. Yes they did give FSU fits but then so did just about everyone else. I would go with the team from Orlando here.

14. Military Bowl: Cincy vs Virginia Tech is another one of those bowl games that just should not be played. Go with the team from Ohio.

15. Sun Bowl: Arizona State vs Duke could be good. Duke has had another excellent season (as far as Blue Devil football goes) and the Sun Devils are among the best of the rest in the PAC 12. Both teams are well coached (although the HC at ASU is a blithering ass and the Duke HC is a class guy), and both have pretty good squads. I will go out on a limb and pick Duke.

16. Independence Bowl: A bit more was expected out of Spurrier's squad and frankly some folks thought Miami might again begin to be a team to take seriously on the national level. This consolation game in Shreveport will be good as both teams will be out to prove they matter. Go with South Carolina in what may be one of the best games of the bowl season.

17. Pinstripe Bowl: BC vs PSU......Ho Hum. Go with BC in an upset of sorts.

18. Holiday Bowl: This game between USC and the Huskers could be good. Nebraska likely has more talent but USC will come out on top.

19. Liberty Bowl: This game in Memphis between the Mountaineers and the Aggies will be one to watch. The Aggies are in rebuild mode and WVU is among the best of the rest in the Big Twelve. Go with WVU in a close one.

20. Russell Athletic Bowl: Oklahoma should have in theory been a contender for the "big game at the end." The Sooners weren't even serious contenders in their conference. Coaching problem likely....On the other hand, Clemson does not have the coaching issue. They just don't have the talent the Sooners do. Might not matter. Go with Clemson.

21. Texas Bowl: A good one here. Arkansas is much better than their record and frankly the Longhorns are a bit lucky to be here. The Hogs smash mouth brand of football may (or may not) ultimately work well in the SEC but it should be enough to win over this year's Longhorn squad. Go with Arkansas.

22. Music City Bowl: Well Nashville is a nice town although it can get a little chilly this time of year. LSU should be able to beat a Notre Dame team that proved to be over rated after all. Unless of course Miles makes some sort of boneheaded call that snatches defeat from the jaws of victory. He is known to do such.....

23. Belk Bowl: Louisville vs Georgia is not a real interesting match up. Both teams are probably pretty even and I will toss the coin and predict that the Bulldog defense will let them down again. Go with Louisville.

24. Foster Farms Bowl: The what? Maryland vs Stanford? Go with the team from California.

25. Chick Fil-A Bowl: TCU (and Baylor) along with the rest of the Big XXII are not happy about being left out of the college football "playoff" festivities. TCU will have to guard against a let down against an Ole Miss team that is very very dangerous. TCU is quicker and better but this may (or may not) be a close one. Go with the Frogs.

26. Fiesta Bowl: When will we see a real playoff in the ranks of "big time" college ball? Guess never. Boise State, had they remained undefeated (like Marshall nearly did) still would not have been considered for entry into the elite. What a scam. Anyway this game is a home game for the Arizona team and they are the better team and will win. Not that the Broncos did not have a commendable season........

27. Orange Bowl: Mississippi State vs Georgia Tech may be good. The Bulldogs are the better team and Georgia Tech has been playing above their talent level. Go with the team from Mississippi.

28. Outback Bowl: Wisconsin was completely embarrassed in their last outing. They are a better team than that. Auburn fell off a bit but is still marginally the better squad. Go with the Tigers.

29. Cotton Bowl: Baylor (and TCU) are better than the fourth team selected for the "playoff" and the Bears will have to guard against feeling like this is a consolation game. The Cotton is one of the premier bowl games and this will be more or less a home game for the Bears. They should be able to beat the Spartans but MSU comes in as a good, well coached football team. Go with Baylor.

30. Citrus Bowl: Missouri again proved they can compete in the SEC and the Gophers have had a pretty darn good season. The Tigers are better but MN. is scrappy. Go with the Gophers in a minor upset.

31. Rose Bowl: Are the Ducks a better team than FSU? I would say yes. Quicker. Let us be honest, FSU has had an awful lot of lucky breaks this year. Not to say they aren't a good football team. They are. The Ducks are just better and will prove it on the field.

32. Sugar Bowl: Alabama is not quite as powerful as they have been in the recent past. Still they are certainly a top four squad. Ohio State is back and no mistake although they should perhaps have not been the fourth team selected. They can prove the doubters wrong in New Orleans though. NOLA is SEC territory to be sure but the Buckeyes may have a surprise in store. I would still go with the Tide in a close one. Long and short is I predict Alabama and Oregon will vie for the "national title" after the Sugar and Rose are in the books.

33. Armed Forces Bowl: Houston has fired their head coach for some reason or other. He has done a pretty commendable job down in Cougar country......Pitt is Pitt and I predict that the Coogs will come away with a victory here.

34. Taxslayer Bowl: Iowa vs Tennessee is uninteresting. I will go with the Vols.

35. Alamo Bowl: KSU vs UCLA may or may not be good. KSU is the better team and no mistake. Look for a Wildcat win.

36. Cactus Bowl: There are far too many bowls. Washington vs Oklahoma State? Toss a coin and go with the Cowboys.

37. Birmingham Bowl: Well at least a lot of money will come to town. Die hard Florida fans will make the trip and the North Carolina ain't that far away. Go with ECU. On another note, it is a shame that UAB disbanded their football program. College sports is a business after all. What? You thought it a mere game?

38. Go Daddy Bowl: This one would be interesting if Danica Patrick did a pole dance at halftime. Other than that the Arkansas State/Toledo match up is just not something most are interested in. For the first time in a few years though the ASU squad is not the best team in Arkansas. Each of the last three Indians errr Red Wolves coaches have moved on to success. I, for one, still miss Big Tom as HC up Toledo way. Flip the coin here and go with Toledo for the victory.

39. FCS Championship: Whoever wins today (Sat 20 Dec) will find themselves fodder for a very very good ND State team. I predict that the game will be between the Bison and New Hampshire but the Bison should win whoever they meet.

Well who will be in the big game at the end to decide the "Division I National Championship?" I am going to say it will be between the Tide and the Ducks and will go out on a limb and predict the Ducks to be the ultimate number one. We will see..............
As far as the upper division, well we have pretty much the same type scam that has been run on college football fans (and schools) for years. This newfangled playoff committee has pretty much turned out to be a joke.... No news there...That being said, on to the Pre Bowl College Football Top 25 for the 2014 season...

1. Oregon: Fast. Probably the team to beat.
2. Alabama: Beatable but a dangerous team to anyone
3. FSU: Finds a way to win. There has been a lot of lucky breaks for the 'Noles this year.
4. Baylor: Quite a bit quicker than most but a one loss Big Twelve team won't get any consideration apparently. Did have a very weak non conference slate one has to admit.
5. Ohio State: May (or may not be) deserving of the spot that places them in the college football "playoff." The Bartender Cabbie System would have them on the outside looking in.
6. TCU: Perhaps should have had a bit more consideration. Near loss to the Jayhawks likely hurt their chances.
7. Kansas State: The best three loss team in the country. Can play some good ball.
8. Mississippi State: Dangerous to anyone anytime anywhere.
9. Michigan State: Perhaps, just perhaps, the best squad in the Big Ten not from Ohio.
10. Ole Miss: The Rebs have fallen off lately.
11. Arizona: Better than they showed last week.
12. Georgia Tech: Good ACC team. Very good.
13. Georgia: OK.
14. UCLA: Well coached. Will be a force in the PAC 12 shortly.
15. Arizona State: Graham knows how to win - jerk that he is.
16. Missouri: Odd that they never really did much in the Big Twelve.
17.Auburn: Good SEC team.
18. Arkansas: Arkansas? Yes. Better than their record and moving in the right direction.
19. Boise State: The best of the rather weak Mountain West. Not convinced this is quite as good as the Bronco teams we have seen in the recent past. We will see....
20. Wisconsin: What happened Badgers?
21. Clemson: A decent ACC team. Well coached.
22. LSU: A rebuild season although folks are again calling for Miles' head.
23. Louisville: OK. Petrino does know how to win.
24. Utah: Probably playing above their talent level.
25. Memphis: I would give them consideration over some of the higher profile squads. Coach Fuente has them moving in the right direction certain. Maybe he will stick around?

On the bubble in no particular order
1. Northern Illinois: Best of the MAC
2. Nebraska: Pelini fired? May or may not be a good decision. Let us be honest, Nebraska left the Big Twelve to again become a "major power." Does not seem to be happening in the marginally weaker Big Ten either.
3. Cincinnati: Good AAC team.
4. UCF: Not quite what they were last season but a dangerous squad none the less.
5. Marshall: Could surprise some top 10 squads on a good day. Well coached.
6. USC: Lane gone (inexplicably to Alabama) and that immediately improved the Trojan prospects.
7. Oklahoma: Should be a contender with all that talent. Problem must be coaching. Has to be.
8. Texas: Improving somewhat. Good coach but he might not be a long term fit in Austin. Too early to tell.
9. Texas A&M: Guess young "Johnny Football" was the team last year. Sumlin is a good coach but this is the first season in years that he has not had a stellar college QB going back to his days at UH.
10. Minnesota: Pretty darn good Big Ten team. Nice to see frankly.
11. Duke: Well coached. Not quite last year's squad but a pretty darn good team.
12. WVU: Hope Dana keeps his job. I like him and his hair.
13. Oklahoma State: Maybe. Nice job against the Sooners last week.
14. Colorado State: Commendable season.
15. Air Force: The best of the service schools this season.
16. Georgia Southern: Looked good in their first year in the "big time." Is anyone surprised?
17. East Carolina: Perhaps a bit of a stretch.
18. Stanford: Fell off this season.
19. BYU: One has the feeling that this would have been a top 25 squad had not the top notch QB gone done early.
20: Utah State: Can be a dangerous team. It would be a team I would not schedule if I was looking for a non conference cream puff. Hear that SEC?
21. Louisiana Tech: OK - stretching things a bit. Time to stop.
22. Houston: Really time to put an end to this. Firing the coach was a stupid move on the part of the administration. Stupid. Unless they can get Sumlin or Briles back of course.....Don't go looking for the fired Gator HC. Rumors........

I am looking forward to putting out the Bowl projections here shortly and will even throw in the FCS Championship Game. Picking ND State for that but hoping Chattanooga pulls one out as this is being written to advance and/or SHSU continues to win....

Have a good week and enjoy the games (If you like lower division ball there are some good match ups on tap.)
Some rather important games on tap..........Last week the Bartendercabbie System went 5-5 for a total on the season thus far of 91-49.....

1. NIU vs Bowling Green: 1st quarter under way already and if I were a betting man I would go with the Huskies here to become the MAC Champion.

2. Louisiana Tech vs Marshall: The Herd are the better club and will come back after their near inexplicable loss to WKU last week. Go with Marshall to take the CUSA crown. Could be close.

3. Alabama vs Mizzou: Upset here. Go with Missouri. The Tide are beatable by many just above average teams on any given day. This season anyway. Nick and Lane are not getting along and that bodes ill at some point. What the heck were they thinking in Tuscaloosa anyway hiring that damn fool Kiffin. It reminds me of what Sherman said of Judson Kilpatrick --"I know that Kilpatrick is a hell of a damn fool, but he is just the sort of man I want to lead my cavalry." Only difference is why on earth would Saban need Kiffin. He is (Kiffin) a hell of a damn fool but who would want him to lead their offense?

4. Wisconsin vs Ohio State: Another upset? Perhaps. Toss up and I will go with the Badgers.....OSU always just seems to come up short.

5. KSU vs Baylor: The Wildcats may perhaps be one of the best in the land right now. Baylor let a TTU squad come back on them last week. Go with KSU. They are playing good ball.

6. Iowa State vs TCU: The Frogs should win this one handily but think back a couple weeks when they almost let a KU squad take them. Same could happen here but, well, probably not. Go with TCU.

7. FSU vs Georgia Tech: Oh yes this one. The Seminoles find a way to win week in and week out albeit against (at times) somewhat suspect competition. I would go with them to find another way to eek one out for the win and conference championship.

8. Fresno State vs Boise State: This is really a rather huge rivalry game. BSU used to be a near perennial threat to be a BCS buster and Fresno State was usually the best of the rest. Both have fallen off in the last couple of years but this should be a good game none the less and will decide the Mountain West winner. Go with BSU in a good, tough game.

9. Arizona vs Oregon: Oregon is the quicker team but are beatable. Will the Wildcats be able to do it. No. Go with the Ducks.

10 Houston vs Cincinnati: As pretty good AAC match up. Both are good teams for the conference and are evenly matched. Never thought much of Tuberville, no matter where he coaches, and the QB change earlier in the season has somewhat revitalized the Houston club. That being said this one is even and the coin will be flipped and land in the favor of Houston coming out on top.

Have a good week and enjoy the games.

Bartender Cabbiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05623813045706584212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6661288566810922442.post-42631699114104268452014-11-23T06:51:00.000-06:002014-11-23T06:51:53.434-06:00Week 14 2014 College Football Forecast and PredictionsOne thing we have learned from this season is that there are quite a few good teams but really no one stands out and can be considered a "great" group. Everyone except for (somehow) FSU and Marshall have at least one stain on the record and one gets the feeling that any team can be beaten on any given day by just about any opponent they schedule. What does this mean? Not much, although it does (or will directly) prove, right out of the gate, that the new "playoff" system for "big time" college ball is just as much garbage as the older system fans had to endure. Just too many squads that are perhaps deserving will be left out of the picture. Sound familiar?

Last week the Bartendercabbie group (me) inadvertently picked 11 games (blame it on a rare hangover?) and went 9-2. Let us throw out the Georgia/Chas Southern game and call it an even 8-2 for a total on the season thus far of 86-44.

On to the predictions........

1. TCU vs Texas: The Frogs are one of those teams that may find themselves on the outside looking in when all is said and done and this "playoff committee" finally has their say. Just not enough quality opponents the pundits are saying. Really? You are telling me that Ohio State (and FSU) face a quality schedule? Of course the one Frog loss came when they let the Bears come roaring back on them and the near loss to a lowly KU squad does not help their case. That being said, the Frogs have to take care of business here or the whole argument will become moot anyway.
This has the potential to be a good game. The Longhorns have improved somewhat and the Frogs are certainly beatable. Toss up perhaps and I will go with the speed of TCU to prevail.

2. LSU vs TAMU: A good game between underachievers in the SEC. Both are in somewhat of a rebuild (or reload) mode this season and the record proves it. Both are also pretty darn good football teams. Toss that coin and go with the Aggies at home.

3. Oregon vs Oregon State: The "Civil War" they call this one. Upset? Doubtful. Go with the Ducks. Don't count the Oregon out of being at the "big game at the end."

4. KSU vs KU: KSU is hands down the better team but their rivals may give them some problems. The Wildcats are far from great but seem to find a way to win consistently. Go with KSU.

5. Ohio State vs Michigan: This rivalry game could be interesting. OSU is much better of course but anything can happen here. Are the Buckeyes ripe for being on the wrong side in the W/L column here? Probably not. Go with Ohio State.

6. Ole Miss vs Mississippi State: This will be a fun one. The Rebs have imploded of late and the Bulldogs have only lost to the Tide. Go with MSU.

7. Auburn vs Alabama: The Tide are certainly beatable and Auburn does have the talent (and good coaching) to do so. This will be a good one and the winner will be a team from Alabama. Which one? Guess I will go with conventional wisdom here and pick the Tide.

8. Notre Dame vs USC: The Irish have imploded. What happened? Loads of talent up that way and a team that (finally) should have been in the top 10. USC is a pretty good PAC 12 team but certainly nothing special. Another toss up? Probably. Go with the Irish.

9. WKU vs Marshall: If the Herd prevail will they finally get some recognition from this newfangled "playoff" committee? At least enough to put them in the Top 25? At least in the ridiculous and now defunct BCS system there was a such thing occasionally as a "BCS buster." Oh the game? Go with the Herd.

10. Rice vs Louisiana Tech: The best of the rest in CUSA square off and both teams have something in common. They have each lost to a moving up from FCS into CUSA Old Dominion squad. This will be another good albeit under the radar game and I will go with the Owls for the win.

Double check the count. No hangover this time. Yep 10 games (and 10 games only). Have a good and safe Thanksgiving week and enjoy the games.

Such was the case yesterday when TCU was just plain lucky to eek out a win in Kansas. Sometimes things go horribly wrong and the "good" team finds themselves in the "L" column against lesser competition. Notre Dame and Arizona State come to mind...........

One thing certain, with only two undefeated schools and all the one loss (and possibly two loss) teams that should be in this newfangled "playoff," there are going to be deserving squads on the outside looking in. The new system is directly going to be exposed as garbage and not much (if any) improved over the defunct BCS system.

Last week the Bartendercabbie System was 5-5 mainly due to some "upsets" predicted that didn't quite pan out. Close though. Miami should have beaten the "Noles and MN did give the Buckeyes a lot to handle.

Total on the year thus far is 78-42 straight up. That being said, on to the predictions for week 13....

1. Northern Illinois vs Ohio: The Huskies have shown they are the best of the MAC this season but that doesn't mean this won't be a close one. The Bobcats are well coached and never a team to count out by anyone. You can ask some Big Ten schools about the danger the Bobcats can pose on a special day. That being said, this Tuesday night match up will end with the Huskies in the "W" column.

2. Bowling Green vs Toledo: The best of the rest in the MAC face off in a toss up. Go with the Rockets at home.

3. Kansas State vs WVU: KSU, with one conference loss, is still in the hunt in the Big Twelve. WVU is a dangerous opponent to anyone on the right day. This will be a close game between two squads who are playing (or at least can play) a bit above their talent level. I will toss the coin and go with KSU.

4. North Carolina vs Duke: Duke is having another good year and the Tar Heels were actually picked by the "experts" early to be a pretty good team. This rivalry game should be a good one and I will go with the Blue Devils. So should you.

5. UTEP vs Rice: Rice has the talent to get back on the winning track here when this West Texas bunch comes calling Friday night. Will they? We will see. I am almost tempted to put this one down as an upset of sorts but will stifle that and go with the Owls. Could be close.

6. Air Force vs SDSU: The Aztecs should have had Boise State. It was not to be. Air Force is the best of the service academies (this season) and may perhaps be one of the best in the Mountain West (of course CSU and BSU fans would have a legitimate argument otherwise). That being said I will go out on a limb and pick SDSU for the victory.

7. South Alabama vs South Carolina: Could say I was padding the stats again but the Jags are a pretty darn good Sun Belt squad. A decent Sun Belt team can be quite dangerous to a good many teams on any given day. Ask around. I will still go with Spurrier's bunch. It could get ugly. Or not.

8. BC vs FSU: BC is another dangerous opponent for the Seminoles. At some point Jimbo's squad is going to lose to one of their less than stellar (aren't they all in the ACC?) in conference opponents. BC, like Louisville and Miami before them, have a shot here. The Eagles can be dangerous (ask USC) and should be up for this one. I would still go with the Seminoles but it won't be easy. They have been living on borrowed time this season. That should continue Saturday.

9. Ole Miss vs Arkansas: This will be a good one. The bloom is off the Rebs somewhat and the Hogs have finally gotten that SEC win. This is a toss up likely. Will the Razorbacks be able to withstand the explosiveness that Ole Miss can bring (will they is another question entirely)? We will see. Go with the Rebs here in a close one.

10. Minnesota vs Nebraska: The Gophers had their chances against the Buckeyes but fell just short and Nebraska was exposed by Wisconsin (actually they were exposed early season by FCS McNeese State). Nebraska has more talent likely but MN is the all around better team. Go with MN.

Have a good week and enjoy the games.
There will be wailing, renting of garments, and gnashing of teeth before too long......When all is said and done this playoff thing will prove to be just about as useless as the now defunct BCS system.

That being said on to the Bartendercabbie system Top 25 for the week.

1. Mississippi State: Major test coming up.

2. FSU: Schedule is slightly suspect.

3. Alabama: One loss team that will have a shot at number one directly.

4. TCU: Quick, quick and quick.

5. Oregon: As above

6. Baylor: Pummeled a decent Sooner squad.

7. Arizona State: Time to give credit where credit due.

8. Auburn: Out of the hunt for the playoff likely but still a contender in the SEC.

9. Ohio State: Getting past the loss to a below average squad early. Major victory last week...

10. Ole Miss: A good SEC team

11. Kansas State: Snyder's team is not finished yet.

12. Michigan State: Bested by the Buckeyes.

13. Nebraska: Don't count them out. A dark horse. Pelini may yet survive the season to fight another year

14. Notre Dame: Not over rated for once. Not under rated either.

15. LSU: Miles is kind of snake bit.

16. Georgia: Jayhawk is right. No defense to speak of.

17. Arizona: One of the best of the rest in the PAC 12.

18. Marshall: Keeps winning. Tough test (possibly) coming up with a good (for CUSA) Rice Owl squad.

19. Clemson: Keeps winning

20. Duke: Another dream season?

21. UCLA: OK

22. Oklahoma: Should be better than they appear. Loads of talent. Still time for redemption in the Big Twelve

23. Wisconsin: Perhaps under rated again.

24. Utah: Dangerous to anyone on the right day perhaps.

25. Colorado State: The best of the MWC?

Almost there in no particular order
Boise State: The best of the MWC?
Minnesota: Certainly better than most seasons
Mizzou: Don't rule them out to be in the SEC Championship Game. With a ( good) bit of luck, they could win the conference. The planets would have to be aligned properly......
West Virginia: Dangerous to anyone on a good day. Looked inept last week against a below average Longhorn squad
Texas A&M: Major victory last week. A rebuild for Sumlin. Would be right there in most conferences.
Georgia Tech: Perhaps they belong. Some folk believe such.
Louisville: Ditto
Miami: May play their way in

Those with a shot in no particular order
USC: Maybe
Toledo: Good MAC team
Northern Illinois: Ditto
Nevada: Good MWC team
Utah State: And another good MWC team
Memphis: The best of the AAC? Perhaps. Will need to run the table.
Georgia Southern: Believe it. This is a good football team.
East Carolina: Will have to overcome the loss to CT. Will need to run the table.
Rice: Would need to beat Marshall, win CUSA, and win bowl game.
Louisiana Cajuns: Probably not. A good Sun Belt team though.
Stanford: A down year
Cincinnati: Could still make noise in the AAC.
UCF: Ditto
Florida: Perhaps but probably not.
Louisiana Tech: A good CUSA team. The loss to FCS Northwestern State will hurt any chances they may have.
Maryland: Doubtful
Air Force: The best of the service schools this season.
Boston College: Can look pretty good at times.

Have a good week and enjoy the games.

1. Mississippi State: Survived a scare against a better than their record Razorback squad.

2. FSU: Looked for a while like their undefeated season was going to come to an end.

3. Alabama: I would not count them out to be in the "big game at the end."

4. Auburn: A force in the SEC and nationally.

5. Kansas State: Snyder keeps winning with the crowd he has. Over achievers they may be, but they know how to win.

6. TCU: Exceptionally quick group but defense might be a tad suspect.

7. Oregon: Best of the PAC 12. Don't count them out to be in the final game.

8. Notre Dame: For real this time. May be tripped up before all is said and done.

9. Michigan State: The best of the Big Ten? We will soon see.

10. Baylor: Easy victory against an over matched opponent in their last outing.

11. Arizona State: Keeps winning.

12. Mississippi: A good team that has had some recent set backs. A practice game next on the schedule with an FCS opponent (just a couple years removed from D2) to work out some kinks. Typical of the SEC to schedule a "sure win" in the 2nd third of the season. Doesn't always work as planned......

13. LSU: A bit of a rebuild but a very dangerous team for anyone.

14. Ohio State: Major test coming up.

15. Utah: One of the best of the rest in the PAC 12.

16. Nebraska: Folks are not talking about this one loss team so much. Perhaps they should be. Maybe the close call with FCS McNeese State is still weighing on folks minds. Could Pelini run the table and make it in? We will see.

17. Oklahoma: Still has a shot in the Big Twelve. A lot of football left to be played

18. Marshall: A good team that will get no consideration from the "college playoff" committee. Reminiscent of the (thankfully) now defunct BCS system?

19. Georgia: Things went horribly wrong last Saturday. An anomaly? Perhaps.

20. Arizona: Another dangerous PAC 12 squad.

21. West Virginia: Can play with anyone on a good day.

22. Clemson: A good ACC team.

23. UCLA: OK. Perhaps. Not totally convinced they belong. Giving them the benefit of the doubt at this time.

24. Duke: Well coached and plays above talent level. Will reach a decent bowl game.

25. Wisconsin: Perhaps ranked a tad low.

On the Brink in no particular order
Miami: Well coached. May pose FSU some problems. Under rated perhaps.
Georgia Tech: Could move up.
Colorado State: The best of the Mountain West?
Boise State: As above.
Mizzou: Can look good at times.
USC: Maybe
Louisville: Had FSU and could not close the deal.

Teams with a shot and in no particular order
East Carolina: A conference loss could be forgivable but to be embarrassed by a cellar dweller in the league? Not so much. Could have been worse. SMU could have beaten them. Capable of working their way back in however. Would need to run the table.
Memphis: Better than many think. Would need to run the table the rest of the way.
Houston: Ditto. Seemed to have gotten it together after a rocky start.
Minnesota: A dangerous team to any Big Ten opponent. Had a rough outing recently.
Stanford: A down year
Texas A&M: Perhaps. Unlikely
Florida: If they play like the did last Saturday..........Likely won't happen.
Utah State: A good MWC team.
Toledo: Are they the best of the MAC this season?
Georgia Southern: Moving up from the lower division and doing a pretty darn good job.
Louisiana Cajuns: Would have to run the table and still would probably not be enough. Very good Sun Belt team.
Nevada: Another above average MWC team.
Boston College: Can look good. Can look not so good.
Louisiana Tech: Doing well in CUSA
Rice: May be the only team capable of surprising Marshall this season in CUSA.

That should about do it. Have a good week and enjoy the games.
FSU survived as an undefeated but was certainly challenged by a decent Louisville squad. Ole Miss has been exposed (sort of) and Mississippi State had their troubles with a pesky Razorback squad. What the heck happened to Georgia? Don't know. One thing is certain though - this newfangled "playoff" system will prove to be just as useless and unfair as the Bowl Championship Series system.

Last week the Bartendercabbie System was 6-4 with a total this season of 68-32.

Week 11

1. Clemson vs Wake Forest: The Tigers are a pretty good ACC team and will have little trouble here.

2. Georgia State vs Troy: Troy has not been good in the last few seasons and Georgia State is, at this point, over matched in the upper division. Go with Troy in a close one.

3. Georgia Southern vs Texas State: GSU may be the class of the Sun Belt in their first season in the upper division. They certainly keep winning. Go with the team from Georgia here.

4. KSU vs TCU: One of the big games this week. Both of these teams are quite good with TCU perhaps being the faster of the two. KSU has the better defense. This one will be a toss up and I will go with the Wildcats for the win.

5. Ohio State vs Michigan State: The winner here will still be in contention for the college football "playoff." The loser will be on the outside looking in. Go with the team from Michigan. Could be close.

6. Alabama vs LSU: Are the Tigers capable of ruining Bama's chances in the hunt for the "national title?" Yes. Will they? Doubtful. Go with Bama.

7. Oregon vs Utah: A loss for the Ducks will take them out of "playoff contention" likely. Other than perhaps Oregon, there is a good deal of parity with the best of the rest in this conference. Oregon may be ripe for an upset here but I said the same last week and I will say so this. Go with the Utes.

8. Baylor vs Oklahoma: The Bears still have a chance of making the "playoff" Oklahoma with two losses already does not. Still this will be a good game and I will go with the Sooners here.

9. Iowa State vs Kansas: This will determine which team is really the most inept in the Big Twelve. Probably Kansas. A major rebuild at a very very hard place to be successful. Go with ISU.

10. Marshall vs Southern Mississippi: The better team will win here and that team will be the Thundering Herd. They will likely run the table in CUSA and not get so much as a nod from this "playoff committee." It is arguable perhaps that they should - they have a very easy schedule, but undefeated is undefeated. Can't argue with that.

Have a good week and enjoy the games. Bartender Cabbiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05623813045706584212noreply@blogger.com0
