Pull Advertising From Rush At Your Peril

Rush Limbaugh is a load and no mistake. He is right on some issues and very wrong on others. Interesting to listen to though. The whole Fluke thing got the fruitloops in an uproar a bit ago and they begin screeching at advertisers to pull their business from the program. Some caved and did so. Stupid move on their part. The fruitloopery and dickweedery among us thought that they would finally get the man off the radio. Wrong. How very very silly these folks can be. Did they not go to school?

ECON 101: A guy with a radio audience of 25 million adults a week is going to sell advertising. It’s a very cost effective way to reach mass numbers. It really doesn’t matter much what he’s saying, what matters is who is listening – and buying

I saw this posted somewhere and it is right on the money. Some must have been absent the day they taught this lesson.

Rush The Righteous Blabbers A Bit Too Much

I am no fan of Ron Paul. He is a loon and no mistake. Yes, he is a pretty decent Congressman I admit and he does represent the district in which I reside but as a potential president.....? I don't think so. The man is just too much of a squirrel.
Now with that being said, today I was driving home from work and Rush was on the air. He was making fun of Dr. Paul with quite a bit of vitriol. That means one thing and one thing only. The Republicans (and Rush) are afraid of this man. That is OK in my book. I wouldn't support Paul any more than I would support that nut Palin, but it is nice that he frightens the "establishment." I am more a a Cain or Trump man myself. Yes Yes I know..Cain is a horndog and Trump is somewhat a clown. I understand and, for the most part, agree. I still think that either/or would be much better than any of the current cast of characters that we have now.

Let us be honest about the radio talking heads though. Rush, Hannity, and a slew of others, are nothing more than cheerleaders and jock sniffers.

Scientists Can Tend To Be Arrogant Pricks

Have you ever noticed that there are things in this world that are unexplained? If not you have been brain dead. Have you ever noticed that "science" often has a very rational explanation for some phenomena and you know in your heart that said explanations are just malarky? Of course you have. Let us take the major oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico for instance. This appeared on surface to be a major environmental disaster of epic proportions. Now that the spill has apparently  (for now) for the most part been capped (or whatever) there is little oil to be found. "Scientists" are "baffled" as to the reason for this. Is it possible that the warm waters of the region or the currents have somehow allowed the oil to dissipate? Who knows for sure, but apparently this, at least so far, has not been the unbelievable environmental disaster that we were told it would be. Did you believe any of it for a minute? I must admit that I did. I thought that this would ruin the fishing and the various states' coastline for perhaps generations. I am no scientist however. Could it be that practitioners and worshipers of science have again gotten it wrong?
Global warming or climate change, whatever you may want to call it, is another issue that science seems to really not be sure about. There is no consensus. The "debate" is not over, Al. Neither Al Gore, respected scientists, or Rush Limbaugh really have a clue if "climate change" is real, a temporary phenomena, a shift in Earth's weather pattern, etc.etc. If modern scientists can not even accurately predict the track of a hurricane, then they certainly are not to be taken seriously on the climate change issue.
Have you ever seen the television series Ghost Hunters? I actually prefer Ghost Hunters International but that is a different subject. At any rate  - Do you think that those practitioners of modern science take the investigations of the television series' finding seriously? Again I am sure there would be debate into methodology, equipment usage, etc, etc, yadda yadda yadda. I would imagine that paranormal (ie ghosts, demons, etc) investigators are placed in the same category by modern scientists as UFO investigators, Big Foot hunters, and a host of other people and groups that investigate subjects out of the norm. The preceding subjects probably make the mainstream science world nervous. Probably many mainstream religious practitioners, for completely different reasons, are even more disturbed by such evidence as presented, for all of us to see, on the television. That is a different subject altogether however. You see, the reason that scientists tend to discount "laymen" findings on any subject is nothing more than fear and arrogance. It is along the same lines as a history professor or archaeologist becoming dismissive and indeed quite angry when other angles or theories, outside of the mainstream, are advanced.
I am not saying that there has not been a vast amount of scientific advancement, particularly in the last century - there has. What I am saying is that the scientific community, as a whole, does not know near as much as they would like us to think they do. They don't even know as much as they themselves think they do.  If any of you have seen a terminally ill relative die a painful death from cancer, then you would know in your heart that in many respects scientists don't, as they say, "know shit."

A Case for Unions?

Unions have been a part of the American landscape for many many years and of course as with any thing else they have their pros and cons.

The Service Employees International Union gets a lot a heat on conservative talk radio of late. The phrase "SEIU thugs" is heard often on such political commentary shows as Rush, Hannity and others. The assertion is that "SEIU thugs" show up to various meetings and events to intimidate and cause a ruckus. This is verified apparently during an incident that got out of hand in Missouri fairly recently. Be that as it may, there are very legitimate reasons for someone wanting to affiliate with this union. Take for example those in the private security industry. This industry is rife with rip off companies that pay the minimum wage, have no benefits and regularly demean those in their employ. Guardsmark Security, one of the major players, has recently been citedfor transferring female officers from one site to another because the client wanted male only security officers. A clear legal violation of course. U.S. Security Associates and Allied Barton also have an extremely bad reputation. These companies are major players in the security industry. In a post 911 world site security is of premier importance. These companies are responsible for security at some very sensitive locations and the level of security actually offered is a joke. For instance, U.S. Security Associates has a contract to "guard" a sensitive research facility in the Houston area where explosives are tested. The officers are of course, unarmed, underpaid and frankly unqualified for the position. With the proper training and wages these employees would be much more qualified to perform their duties as they should be performed. The turnover rate would of course be much lower and the officers would have a sense of pride in their work. This type of scenario is widespread. Any chemical plant in this nation has security forces that are not up to the job. No fault of the employee. Proper training and wages, as previously stated, would solve the problem. Would this be a guarantee against a terrorist assault? No of course not. The facilities though would be much more secure however and just possibly any assault minimized. It is certainly understandable why those in the security field would want and probably need representation.

Those in the hospitality industry are in the same boat as those in the security industry. Underpaid and demeaning working conditions are often the norm. Aramark and Sodexo are notorious problems. Anyone who has worked for these "fine" organizations will have horror stories.

If there was ever an industry that needed organizing it is chemical trucking. These drivers are subjected to long hours, low pay, hazardous conditions and frankly, in many cases, a lack of proper training. For instance hauling molten sulfur is a dangerous task and there are some companies that will give a driver no more than one or two days training before sending them to load and unload this product. They are on the roads with your family. I personally have seen drivers injured and expensive chemical spills occur due to a lack of training on this product alone. A related issue would be "tank cleaners" who job is to well, clean trailers of hazardous and non hazardous chemicals. This is at the minimum a two man job when hazmat or any tank entry is involved. Groendyke Transport actually at one time had one man, working at night, cleaning trailers at one of their facilities. This is well known and easily substantiated. People have died because of this type of unsafe scenario. Yes if there ever was an industry that needs organizing it is HazMat trucking.

The NEA and affiliates are often lambasted for being too involved in the political arena and there are many who blame them for the decline in the public school systems across this land. They may have a valid point. One must remember that this organization came upon the scene because teachers were underpaid and under appreciated. Still are. School districts would pay people as little as they possibly could. It is understandable why teachers organized and continue to do so. Teaching is, after all, a profession that is as important as any and more so than most.

Now the flip side is that these unions have become very powerful and it is dangerous politically for those in public office to trifle with them. SEIU, for instance, is an advocate of overturning the well thought out and actually quite benign Arizona "immigration law." This in itself is reason for the greater public to distrust them. This is a red flag to the ultra leftist bent of this organization (and others like it). Of course the goal is to organize illegal aliens and add their contributions to the union coffers. That is unfortunate and quite possibly borderline treasonous.

With that being said however, it is certainly understandable why those in the service industries feel the need for organization and SEIU is the most powerful force. It is the same for truckers and Teamsters as it is for teachers and the NEA.

It is all about personal economics after all.

Little Dumb Verses

Everyone at one time or another has heard of the "There once was a man from Nantucket" thing. Perhaps some of you even recall the old "There once was a man from Kent" ditty. I have thought up a couple myself, but they are pretty tame in comparison to the above.

There once was a man named Rush
From his mouth the words they did gush
He made waters murky
Some thought him a turkey
But he's done pretty well for a lush

There once was a woman named Rachel
She had a talk show on cable
The network did botch
For very few watched
But to fire her they will be unable

There once was a loudmouth named Grace
Who always wore a scowl on her face
She sure liked to screech
She might be beech
I wish someone would spray her with mace

There once was a man named Hannity
He sure suffered greatly from vanity
His show was too long
He was usually wrong
Methinks he's losing his sanity

There once was a man called Olbermann
He is just an idiot

I had a little too much time on my hands this afternoon..
