How Will This Berry Thing Play Out?

It is always interesting when  certain types of celebs find themselves in a hot bath. Does anyone know why? We come to expect and give somewhat a pass to those in legitimate entertainment (music, sports, etc.)when they get caught in some sort of compromising position, but those in politics or political commentary.......? They are pounced on and ruined before the truth even comes out.

Recently we have seen various political figures caught with their pants down (so to speak).  Anthony Weiner, Wu, Groper Al, and others come to mind. Remember the high drama (and comedy) that surrounded the Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart episodes of a few years back? What about Limbaugh? Recall when it was revealed that he supposedly was indeed a doper? There is a certain amount of  interest when one of these types mess up. Perhaps it is just because people find it strangely fascinating (and amusing) when one who purports to be "a cut above" the average Joe gets caught in something.

A hotel is a hotel. Right? If we compare a Hilton with an hourly spot one can see a difference. Yes? Still they are both places where money is spent and a bed can be had. In that they are the same. In all other respects there is a difference and that difference is obvious. Same with nightclubs. In the Montrose area of Houston there are numerous clubs that cater (mainly) to the gay community. I would suspect that they are profitable as they are always packed come an evening and have been in business a long long time. However, even among the clubs, there is a hierarchy of sorts. Even though all of the establishments are basically the same; one can get a gin and tonic in any spot on the loop; there is a difference in clientele. Some are rather mainstream (so to speak) and some....not so much.

A person of legal age can go anywhere and have a drink they so desire. Can they not? So it should not really be a big deal (or any one's business) if local Houston talk show host, Micheal Berry (yes I know it is spelled "Berry"), decides to stop in at T.C's for a drink ( and perhaps a show). No one's business except perhaps Mrs. Berry. However, when Mr. Berry is (allegedly) involved in a hit and run accident in the lot, well, then it becomes a public issue. We are all innocent until proven guilty but the evidence does seem to point to something that should at least be investigated properly. The only reason this is a story at all is that Mr. Berry is a well known local character. If he were just a local so and so this would just be one of the plethora of minor episodes that are investigated that concern no one other than the victims, the perps, the police, and the courts. Certainly nothing  that would involve the local media.

Now back to the actual "club" itself. There is video "evidence" that is now publicly available that shows a man fitting Berry's description hanging about in T.C's Showbar. OK. Not my (or your) business really. But the video is there. An "accident" of sorts did allegedly occur outside the club. Mr. Berry's vehicle was supposedly identified by lic. plate number, What are we supposed to think? Incidentally T.C.s is known to cater to a pretty rough crowd and there are always those involved in "rough trade" hanging outside and in the vicinity. Many cabbies won't pick up there. I guess the place t is on the low end of the local gay clubs. I suppose you would have to ask a regular patron of the area clubs to find out for sure, but most cabbies have an acute sense of a dangerous spot and T.C. Showbar would qualify.

Again, Berry does not have any need  or obligation to  publicly explain his (alleged) presence in a low establishment. None. He may need to answer for the (again alleged) hit and run episode. Probably not though. That remains to be seen. One thing I will wager though is that Berry will find the need to publicly explain what happened on his forum. You can bet the episode won't be his fault but rather the fault of those who are "out to get him" for his conservative stance; the story will certainly be elaborate and interesting and it might even be completely true. I can assure you that those who might not buy his story hook line and sinker will somehow be sons of bitches for having the audacity to not take him at his word. (How dare they?)

This is not a "hit piece" on some guy. I actually agree with probably 80 percent or more of what Berry says, but I've been around the block a time or two and and have seen him before. At any rate, the whole thing might get pretty interesting in a sort of "who cares" kind of way.

We will see.
